Arsenal signing this 28-year-old defensive wall would help Emery bring back incredible success to the Emirates

Arsenal opinion: Arsenal should sign Walter Kannemann

According to a report in the Metro, Arsenal are looking to signing Argentinian international Walter Kannemann from Gremio to help sort out their defensive issues.

The 28-year-old plays as a centre-back and has most of the attributes of a modern-day centre-back and would strengthen a position which has been a cause of concern for the Gunners for far too long now.

Arsenal showed signs of forming a defensive partnership with Sokratis and Rob Holding complimenting each other but Holding suffered a long-term injury during the first half of the season against Manchester United that would keep him out of the team for the foreseeable future.

Laurent Koscielny isn’t getting any younger and has only one more year left on his contract. Movrapanos is still fairly young and has time to develop. Shkodran Mustafi has disappointed after making a bright start to his Arsenal career. Often making some very constant errors that stand out.

It doesn’t help that Hector Bellerin also suffered a long-term injury and Kannemann’s flexibility would help the Gunners in the long run as well.

Kannemann would be a steady presence in the backline and would definitely fit in with Unai Emery’s principles of starting play from the back. This is something that he couldn’t completely achieve last season and will be able to do so this season if he can get his signature over the line.

The Argentinian is also fairly tough and has a steely determination about him, which has seen him make his way into the Argentinian National despite not playing in Europe.

Perhaps, this is the perfect time for him to look for shores anew. Unai Emery would be a fantastic coach for the defender to learn from. His coaching ability would definitely help Kannemann up his game and Kannemann could look upon this as a massive challenge in helping Arsenal restore some of their appeal from yesteryear.

The Gunners have to put their sole focus on the Premier League this season, having gambled with the Europa League in the last two seasons and falling just short of the finish line on both occasions.

Kannemann’s addition will help add some fresh faces and wouldn’t be the most expensive move just like Mateo Guendouzi’s but it could be just what is required for the Gunners to slowly move up the table and make those Champions League places again.
