Arsenal signing this 3-time CL winner would go a long way in boosting their overall strength

Arsenal opinion: The Gunners should sign Keylor Navas

According to a report in the Express, the Arsenal have been linked with a move for Real Madrid’s Keylor Navas. Arsenal will be on the lookout for a goalkeeper after Petr Cech departed the club last season.

Navas has been a fantastic goalkeeper for Real Madrid and is to this day criminally under-rated despite playing a big part in Los Blancos’ domination of European competitions over the years.

He came into prominence after his stellar displays for the Costa Rica national team in 2014 FIFA World Cup and Madrid would’ve been aware of him during his time at Levante.

He was in goal for the 3 UEFA Champions League finals that Real Madrid won in succession under Zinedine Zidane and has often been the topic of conversation when the question of an upgrade to the first-team came about.

This wasn’t entirely to do with Navas himself as he was the replacement of Real Madrid and Spanish National Team legend Iker Casillas.

His replacement from last season, Thibaut Courtois, didn’t have the best of seasons last year. Courtois is one of the best shot-stoppers in the game but he’s not the best with his feet, which is something that most of the top teams in Europe prioritize today.

Navas was fundamental to the way Madrid attack and his slightly smaller frame and reserved personality has cast shade over his performances, which have been world-class for a number of years and Arsenal would be very lucky if they were to afford the services of the Costa Rican.

Unai Emery prefers a goalkeeper who can build attacks from the back as was evident last season and especially at the start of his reign.

Petr Cech retired last season after an illustrious career and Navas would be the perfect replacement to not only make up for the attributes that Cech was missing in his game but also add a lot of experience and a winning mentality.

Conclusion

Emery will be hoping that his side can make amends for last season after coming ever so close to winning the Europa League and making it into the top-4 in the league but missing out. Football is a game of fine margins and Arsenal will be hoping to plug those gaps in the coming season.
