Arturo Vidal VS Morgan Schneiderlin
Louis Van Gaal is not far away from achieving his motto of making Manchester United a competitive team in England and Europe again. But there are a few missing pieces in the jigsaw and those are a world class center back and an agile central midfielder who will have a brilliant chemistry with the players in his vicinity on the field. For the January a few midfielders are linked with a move to United, and according to the latest reports in English media Morgan Schneiderlin of Southampton and Arturo Vidal of Juventus are the top most priorities for Van Gaal to fill these boots. Let us analyze and compare the playing style of these to and figure out who will be a better signing for united.
Analysis
Both Vidal and Schneiderlin are world class midfielders and in top notch form since past few years and both are also irreplaceable figure in their respective teams. Schneiderlin has played for 7 years in the Premier League but has zero experience of European football where as Vidal has ample of European football experience as he played with 2 European giants Bayer Leverkusen and Juventus. Vidal also has an upper hand when it comes to International football with 54 caps for the Chilean national team and Morgan has made only 7 appearances for France and is 25 years old. Thus when it comes to experience Vidal is the dominant one.
Both of these chaps play in midfield, Morgan Schneiderlin plays as a central or defensive midfielder whereas Vidal is a more versatile players who comforts himself in various midfield roles whether it be an attacking or a defensive role and sometimes he also plays on right flank. Also both are full pitch covering industrious players whose efforts are noticeable in both attacking and defensive thirds.
First thing which come to our mind when we hear the word Central Midfielder is passing in this case both are excellent passers and they barely make any misplaced pass as Schneiderlin has as passing accuracy of 89% and Vidal with 84%. But that’s not all, the main thing is whose passing is more fruitful and helpful for the teammates Vidal creates 1.4 chances in every game while Morgan’s figure is less than one which is just 0.9 chances per game. Vidal has scored 5 goals in last 13 Serie A games where as Schneiderlin has netted 3 goals in last 15 Premier League appearances. But this is understandable in case of Schneiderlin as he plays only in deeper roles and Vidal is used in different positions.
A central midfielder is always expected to do some defensive duties and both these players are defensively very sound. Schniederlin makes more than 6 tackles per game while Vidal makes 7 tackles per game which is a fantabulous figure. But Vidal has a success rate of 43% and Schneiderlin’s success rate is 46%. As schneiderlin plays more in deeper roles he wins possession at least 2 times in every game by interception whereas Vidal only once.
None among these two has any significant weaknesses but they commit fouls very often leading to bookings.
Conclusion Who Is The One?
Obviously Arturo Vidal is the one, Vidal has an upper hand in almost every aspect of comparison on the field and is a more experienced and also a versatile player just what Manchester United need. Vidal will have a brilliant partnership with United’s long term defensive midfielder Daely Blind and might also have a brilliant understanding with other players. Vidal will also be capable of replacing any injured midfielder in the Man United squad with the likes of his versatility. While Schneiderlin is a world class footballer too but is still inexperienced and has some room for development. Hence there is no chance Schneiderlin will be a better pick over Vidal.
