Aston Villa beating West Brom to sign this 17-year-old sensation would be a brilliant move by Dean Smith

Aston Villa opinion: Should the Villans sign Erkan Eyibil?

According to a report from the Daily Star, Aston Villa have set their sights on Mainz’s 17-year-old sensation, Erkan Eyibil over a summer move.

The report reveals that Villa’s Championship rivals West Brom are also interested in the youngster with Premier League sides West Ham and Newcastle linked to him previously.

Villa have one foot in the final of the playoffs after coming back from behind to beat West Brom 2-1 at the weekend. The Villains are in fine form ahead of the second-leg and based on their recent run of results, they are favourites to make it into the Premier League next season.

Jack Grealish and Tammy Abraham have been the undisputed stars of this Villa side but Dean Smith’s side could well be without both of them in the summer.

Abraham is expected to return to Chelsea at the end of his loan spell, while Grealish has attracted interest from Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham over the last few months.

Losing either will be a massive blow for Villa next season and they will need to recruit good replacements for them in the summer transfer window. Regardless of who they bring in to replace their star duo, Villa will also need to keep an eye on youngsters for the future.

One such youngster who will be a fine addition to this Villa squad is Erkan Eyibil. The 17-year-old has been a sensation in the youth levels in Germany and his performances have drawn comparisons to Arsenal star and German World Cup winner Mesut Ozil.

Eyibil, like Ozil, is an out and out number 10 with outstanding vision. The youngster has the ability to pick out a teammate from the unlikeliest of positions, something that Ozil has excelled in over the past decade.

In his last three seasons with Mainz’s youth setup, Eyibil has a phenomenal record of 42 goals and 32 assists in 66 appearances.

He has 15 goals and 5 assists to his name in 19 appearances this season, which is an outstanding return for any player in the world let alone a 17-year-old.

Erkan Eyibil is the next big thing in world football and the mere fact that his style of play has been compared to one of the best attacking midfielders in the world in Mesut Ozil is a testament of how could he can be in the coming years.

Villa will have a real gem in their hands if they sign Erkan Eyibil in the summer and beating their Championship rivals West Brom to his signature will give bragging rights to their fans.
