Aston Villa signing this 23-goal French star would be a win-win for all parties involved – agreed?

Aston Villa opinion – Villans must sign Neal Maupay in the summer

Neal Maupay was linked with Aston Villa during the January window and the Brentford striker didn’t really smash those links off. Hence, there is a possibility that he would be tempted to leave the Bees in the summer transfer window (h/t Football.London).

Currently, the Frenchman’s contract at Griffin Park is until 2021, but that doesn’t matter at this point in time.

If we take a look at the report that was published in January, it was suggested that Brentford would ask around £20m from Aston Villa if the striker was to be sold (h/t Express).

Hence, it is pretty clear that the Villans have to come up with an offer close to that if they are to sign the player. Here’s why they must do that in the summer:

Villa need someone long-term up front

Aston Villa have been a free-scoring team this season. Netting 77 goals in 42 league games isn’t a mean feat. It also iterates that Dean Smith likes to play front-foot football, where the forward players have more than a chance to score every game.

Furthermore, the centre-forward is always surrounded by his teammates, hence his work to try and find space between the centre-backs becomes a tad easier.

This is exactly how Tammy Abraham is enjoying life leading the line for the Villans. He has scored 24 goals in 36 appearances, to go with two assists. On the face of it, the loanee from Chelsea looks like an ideal striker for the team.

However, the Englishman’s future at the club after his loan spell ends is unclear. Chelsea might just bring him back if their transfer ban is upheld in the summer. On the other hand, German side RB Leipzig are readying a bid for the player (h/t Birmingham Mail).

Hence, it makes sense from Aston Villa’s viewpoint to sign a centre-forward on a permanent basis, who can lead the line on a long-term basis.

Neal Maupay has had a fantastic season at Brentford, scoring 23 goals in 40 appearances.

Finally, he is a kind of player who can produce the output similar to what Abraham has done under Dean Smith.
