Aston Villa sealing the deal for this 25-year-old star would mark a perfect end to their brilliant summer spree

Why Aston Villa should go all out to sign Christian Luyindama

According to a report from The Daily Star, Premier League newbies Aston Villa have made an £11m bid for defender Christian Luyindama, just days after he signed for Galatasaray.

Christian Luyindama, 25, impressed at Galatasaray on loan from Standard Liege last season. That has seen the Turkish champions activate a permanent option in the DR Congo international’s contract.

Aston Villa have bid three times the amount that Galatasaray paid for Luyindama and as the Turkish giants are looking for funds to further strengthen their squad for the upcoming season, they seemingly would be happy to consider that amount and make a quick profit on the defender.

The Villans have lavishly splashed the cash in the last few weeks. They have been the stars of the summer transfer window, bringing in no less than 12 players already.

Dean Smith has made considerable additions to his defence this summer with the signings of Tyrone Mings, Matt Targett, Kortney Hause and Bjorn Engels. Christian Luyindama would improve them further.

Aston Villa will need a strong defence to do well in the Premier League next season and signing the Congo international would be a step in the right direction.

He has only just returned from his Africa Cup of Nations exploits where he represented the Democratic Republic of the Congo, making three appearances as they crashed out of the competition with defeat to Madagascar in the round of 16 knockout matches.

Luyindama is a versatile player, as he also has the capability to play in a defensive midfield role or even as a forward.

Standing at 6ft 3in, the Congolese is a towering defender who can outmuscle opposition and win headers. He can play out from the back as well as make crucial interceptions and tackles for his team.

With his strength, power and versatility, the 25-year-old could be a valuable asset to Villa and his presence at the back is certain to reduce the number of goals conceded considerably. His positioning is very good and his pace allows him to recover in case he is caught out.

Luyindama is a powerful runner with the ball and has the ability to take on the opposition to barge towards the opposition by-line.

Verdict

Aston Villa will be making an outstanding addition to their squad if they manage to land Christian Luyindama. The 25-year-old has proven his ability at Galatasaray last season and if he can quickly adapt to the Premier League, he will turn out to be a sound long-term investment for Smith’s side.
