Aston Villa should surely sign this 21-year-old centre-back in the summer and here is why it is their best option now

Aston Villa Opinion: Why Aston Villa should re-enter the chase for Harold Moukoudi

Birmingham Live has revealed that former Aston Villa target Harold Moukoudi has been banished to the stands by his current side Le Havre. The 21-year-old centre-back has been in fine form but is involved in a bitter contract dispute at the moment.

The defender’s contract expires at the end of the current season. His refusal to sign a new deal has seen him permanently benched. For Aston Villa, who Birmingham Live reported were interested in the 21-year-old, no move ever materialized.

However, at the moment, Moukoudi’s current situation should prompt the Lions to re-enter the race.

Other than James Chester, Tommy Elphick and Micah Richards, the club has no centre-back signed on a permanent contract. They did sign the likes of Axel Tuanzebe, Tyrone Mings and Kortney Hause on loan but none of the three stars has impressed much.

Hause has been used as a left-back, which shows why Aston Villa need Harold Moukoudi.

A solid centre-back, the 21-year-old is much younger and will only keep improving over time if his current performances are anything to go by. He’s more reliable than Richards and Elphick while boasting a rather delightful cocktail of speed and strength.

This is something few centre-backs have and given Micah Richard’s drop in performances, the Lions need someone like that. However, the fact that he has been permanently benched until he signs a new deal could pose a slight problem.

As a football player, Harold Moukoudi needs to play regular football but at the moment, he isn’t doing that for the club.

Aston Villa have to sign him, otherwise, things could get worse for the club with Chester, Elphick and Richards all beyond the age of 30. The Lions are chasing promotion but at the moment, they sit 13th in the Championship and need a massive overhaul to improve their chances next season.
