Aston Villa signing this 20-year-old prodigy would ensure a bright future for them under Dean Smith

Why Aston Villa should sign Darius Olaru from Gaz Metan

According to a report in Birmingham Mail, Championship side Aston Villa are interested in signing Gaz Metan midfielder Darius Olaru. The 20-year-old has had a good season so far, attracting interest from clubs around Europe. Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund are also keeping close tabs on this young prodigy.

As per the report, Villa boss Dean Smith is eager to strengthen his side as they push for an unlikely top six finish this season. He has the reputation of improving young players and making them world beaters in due course of time.

In Olaru, we have an exciting talent who could be the next big thing in football in a few years time. Here’s why Aston Villa should sign the 20-year-old amidst Dortmund interest:

Olaru could be something Villa need

A striker or support striker by trade, Olaru can play on the left wing or as a wide midfielder if required. He can also operate in the number 10 role, creating chances by playing in between the lines.

Hence, we can safely say he is right up there when it comes to versatility and the ability to play in various positions to impact the game and help the team. The 20-year-old has impressed many while plying his trade in Romania thus far.

Dean Smith

After a decent start to life under Dean Smith, Aston Villa’s form has dropped off a bit. The heavy defeat to Wigan Athletic last week depicted that there is a lot of work to be done before becoming favourites to get promoted to the Premier League.

The injury to their creative chief Jack Grealish isn’t helping the cause as well. He is expected to return by the second week of February.

The likes of Yannick Bolasie, Albert Adomah and Anwar El Ghazi haven’t been consistent enough to either create chances for Tammy Abraham to score or get on the scoresheet themselves.

Thus, the need for someone with a cutting edge in the final third is imminent. This is where Darius Olaru could be of potential use for the Birmingham-based club.

The versatile 20-year-old has a lovely left foot with which he can deliver magic on the pitch. He is still young, but the developments he has made in the last 12-15 months is impressive, to say the least. The Romanian could offer something out of the box to this Villa team, which could aid Smith’s men.
