Aston Villa taking a gamble on this 21-year-old wing wizard would work wonders for Smith – Here’s why

Aston Villa opinion: The Villans should take a punt on Emre Mor

According to a report from The Sun, newly-promoted Premier League trio Aston Villa, Norwich City and Sheffield United are considering a move to sign Celta Vigo winger Emre Mor.

Mor, 21, impressed with Nordsjaelland in Denmark before heading on to Borussia Dortmund in 2016. However, he struggled to make an impact at Dortmund and was sold to Celta Vigo a couple of years back.

He was tipped for superstardom from a young age, but the same attitude problems have plagued Mor’s career with Dortmund and now Celta Vigo, with the Spanish side even ready to let him go for free despite the player having three years left on his contract, the report adds.

The 21-year-old’s quality is undeniable and would be worth the gamble for any of the aforementioned clubs. That being said, Aston Villa should win the race for Mor’s signature ahead of the likes of Norwich and Sheffield United.

Dean Smith is building a squad capable of securing Premier League safety come May 2020, with Villa having already signed five players in the summer transfer window.

The latest player to arrive at the Villa Park is Matt Targett, signed from Southampton on Monday. Yet, Smith remains hungry for more, as new owners Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris appear to be fully backing the manager.

With Tammy Abraham returning back to parent club Chelsea following the expiry of his loan spell, the Villa boss decided to bolster his attacking options with the acquisitions of Anwar El Ghazi and Jota from Lille and Birmingham City respectively.

To compete with the Premier League teams, the Midlands outfit certainly need more quality and depth to their squad.

The talented Mor would be a good addition to Aston Villa. Mor was once billed as one of Europe’s hottest prospects and was even likened to Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi at one point.

However, things haven’t gone according to the scripts for the 21-year-old, with attitude problems and clashes with managers over the last few years playing a significant part for his fall from grace.

Yet, the Denmark-born winger is only 21-years-old and has plenty of time to resurrect his stuttering career. Mor is a creative winger, who is capable of creating chances and scoring goals in equal measure.

A fantastic dribbler and extremely pacey, the Turkey international’s ability to run with the ball and use his low centre of gravity to beat defenders with ease would light up the Premier League.

Mor would undoubtedly add a touch of flair to Villa’s attacking ranks, whilst potentially forming a fantastic partnership with the likes of El Ghazi and Jack Grealish.

Verdict

Dean Smith has gained a reputation of nurturing young talents and helping them reach their potential. Mor’s career has gone off the track due to off-field problems but apparently on a free transfer, the Villa boss should take a punt on the Turkish winger.
