Aston Villa Opinion: Why the Villans should go for Mahmoud Trezeguet?

According to a report from The Sun, newly-promoted Premier League club Aston Villa are set to make an £8million bid for Kasimpasa attacker Mahmoud Trezeguet.

The Egyptian, 24, went on loan to Kasimpasa from Anderlecht in the summer of 2017, and shone in Turkish football. He signed permanently last summer, after an excellent World Cup campaign in Russia, and scored nine goals in 29 games for the Turkish side Kasimpasa last season.

It is believed that the Aston Villa scouts were mightily impressed with Mahmoud Trezeguet’s performances at the African Cup of Nations. His form at this summer’s African Cup of Nations has been fantastic, with the 24-year-old helping Egypt sail through to the last 16, finishing top of Group A with a 100% record.

Aston Villa have been very busy in the summer transfer window, having already signed as many as five players so far.

Dean Smith is shaping his squad ahead of the Premier League campaign, making the most use of the transfer market for addressing the problematic areas. He needs to add more goals to his side following the exit of Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham at the end of the season.

The Villans have shattered their transfer record to sign Wesley Moraes from Club Brugge, but he is young and has no prior experience of the Premier League. Moraes could take time to adjust to the English top-flight which means Smith must not hesitate to add another goalscorer to his ranks.

Trezeguet would also be a risk for Aston Villa as the 24-year-old hasn’t played in any of Europe’s top five leagues so far in his career. But he’d be worth the gamble having dished out consistent performances at Kasimpasa and for Egypt in the last couple of years.

The versatile winger would add a lot of pace, movement and flair to Villa’s attacking ranks. Trezeguet loves to run with speed at defenders and dribble past them before delivering crosses in the box. He is exciting and would add the unpredictability factor to Smith’s squad, whilst potentially forming a strong attack with the likes of Jota, Moraes and El Ghazi.

The Egyptian international is an exciting player that could light up the Premier League and single-handedly win games on his day. The 24-year-old would undoubtedly bolster Villa’s wide options and make an improvement to Smith’s starting XI.

Verdict

Villa must ensure they have a squad capable of competing at the top level. Smith has already made some exciting additions to his squad this summer and Trezeguet would be another. At just £8million, he would represent a massive coup for the Lions.
