Baines Out, Cuco Martina In – Strongest 4-2-3-1 Everton Line-up To Face AS Lyon On Thursday

Predicted Everton Line-up To Face AS Lyon In The Europa League

Everton decided to part ways with Ronald Koeman after their disastrous start to the season but that did not help them change their fortunes as their first post-Koeman era game ended in a loss to Leicester City at the weekend. David Unsworth will get another bite at the cherry when his side travel to France to take on an in-form AS Lyon side in the Europa League.

The Toffees lost 2-0 at home in the reverse fixture but with little pressure on them, they are expected to put on a fight in this game.

Team News

Ross Barkley, Yannick Bolasie, Seamus Coleman, and Roberto Funes Mori are out injured while Michael Keane is out with a foot infection. James McCarthy, who only recently recovered from a spell on the sidelines is out as well.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Manager: David Unsworth

GK – Maarten Stekelenburg

Though Pickford has been preferred by Koeman, Stekelenburg has not got too many games under his belt and should be used in this game.

RB – Jonjoe Kenny

The youngster has been exceptional in the few chances that he’s got at the highest level and deserves to start for a struggling Everton side.

Phil Jagielka

CB – Phil Jagielka

The experience of Jagielka might be important for the Toffees to keep their goal intact on their trip to Lyon.

CB – Ashley Williams

The former Swansea man needs to improve and with Keane out injured, he is expected to start alongside Jagielka at the heart of the Everton defence.

LB – Cuco Martina

Though Baines has been decent, he could be rested and Martina might be given a chance to showcase his skill in this UEL fixture.

Idrissa Gueye

CM – Idrissa Gueye

With not many options in midfield, Unsworth needs to use Gueye to add mettle to the midfield.

CM – Tom Davies

He should be partnered by the young Tom Davies, who has been more effective than not, in the last few outings.

RW – Nikola Vlasic

Another youngster who has been decent for Everton, Vlasic deserves to start in his natural, right-wing role against the French outfit.

Davy klaassen

CAM – Davy Klaassen

The Dutch international has failed to establish himself in the first team at Everton but the manager should instil confidence and use him in No.10 role just behind the striker.

LW – Kevin Mirallas

Though Sigurdsson is a better fit, Mirallas also needs some confidence under his belt and playing away from home, under pressure, might bring the best out of him.

ST – Dominic Calvert-Lewin

The likes of Sandro Ramirez and Wayne Rooney have been inconsistent and Unsworth should give the duo a rest and inject some pace by choosing Lewin to lead the line.
