Barcelona signing this £106m speedster would revive their dull looking attack next season – agreed?

Barcelona opinion: Should Barca sign Valencia’s Rodrigo Moreno?

According to the Daily Mail, Barcelona are considering a move for Valencia striker Rodrigo to bolster their attacking line-up. The La Liga giants concluded the season with only the La Liga title despite being in a position to achieve a treble.

By and large, their most humiliating defeat was against Liverpool in the Champions League semi-finals, surrendering to the Reds 4-0 at Anfield despite a 3-goal lead in aggregate.

The defeat looked exactly the same as their last year’s UCL defeat against Roma, which means the lightning has struck twice for the Blaugrana. Regardless of the disapproval for Ernesto Valverde’s managing style, the key reason for their downfall this season is the lack of stability in the frontline.

Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez

Lionel Messi is the only elusive figure whilst his strike partners Luis Saurez and Philippe Coutinho failed to provide enough support for the Argentine talisman.

In particular, the Uruguayan’s stats for this season begs to be looked as there is drastic downfall in his scoring rate when compared to the previous season.

Barring his impressive La Liga goal tally, the 30-year-old scored only on one occasion in 9 European games. The recurring injury problems and fatigue may be the reasons but it is obvious that Suarez is not in his pinnacle.

Is Rodrigo a viable addition for Barca?

Rodrigo has been vital for the Oranges in their successful season to qualify for Champions League as well as to lift the Copa Del Rey, a trophy that was long held by Barca.

The 28-year-old bagged an impressive 22-goal tally in all competitions and featured for the Spain national team in Euro qualifiers. And the Spaniard’s competition in the cup competition was exceptional as he scored a hat-trick in the quarterfinals against Getafe and the decisive goal in the finals as well.

Rodrigo

Though his goal scoring stats have slightly declined compared to the previous season, Rodrigo rose to the occasion whenever he was needed by his side. He has garnered 5 goals for his national team in 17 caps.

Rodrigo would be an excellent addition and can solve Valverde’s attacking woes at least on a temporary basis given that he is on the cusp of entering his 30’s.

However, the former Real Madrid man’s whopping price tag of £106million that Barca are willing to pay, looks really unconventional.
