Barcelona opinion: Should Barca sign Harvey Elliott?
According to a report from the Sun, Barcelona and Real Madrid are interested in signing Fulham wonderkid Harvey Elliott.
The English prodigy has been creating waves since he made his professional debut with the Cottagers, aged just 15. The report also claims that Elliot is reluctant to agree on a new deal with the Cottagers, putting the La Liga giants on alert.
Elliot- a star in the making
A youth product of the Cottagers, it didn’t take long for Elliott to break into the first-team – thanks to his wonderful campaign with the U-18 side as well as the reserves.
The 16-year-old bagged a total of 5 goals and 4 assists in all competitions. Being a winger on either side of the flanks, Elliot can also adjust his role as a midfielder.
Why should Barca sign Elliot?
The Catalan kings have hardly had any impactful wide-men in recent years, with the highly-rated Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele failing to recreate the greatness they had at their former clubs.
Malcom, who was bought from Bordeaux last summer, couldn’t break into the spotlight despite showing his quality whenever he had his chances. Moreover, the Brazilian also fell down Ernesto Valverde’s pecking order due to the immortal presence of Lionel Messi.
Furthermore, Barca’s reputation of blooding real talents from La Masia, their youth academy, has been withering over the years as only a handful of players have managed to break into the first-team.

Elliott would be an addition for the Spanish side’s prospective future, though the transfer looks uncanny as La Liga doesn’t boast any historic significance for English players. Yet, in the case of Elliott, it is possible.
Verdict
Barca missed the chance to sign their former academy prospect and the Japanese international Takefuso Kubo, who the Los Blancos have now acquired.
The Blaugrana shouldn’t let their arch-rivals move ahead in the pursuit of Elliott, keeping in mind they would be adding someone to the club’s long-term future.
