Barcelona would commit a massive blunder by reuniting with this veteran 112-time capped Brazilian – Agreed?

Barcelona opinion: Should Barca sign Dani Alves?

According to a report from Marca, Dani Alves has expressed his desire to return to Barcelona after announcing that he would leave PSG this season. The Brazilian full-back spent two full seasons with the Ligue 1 outfit and won four titles.

Prior to his move to the French capital, Alves spent a season with Juventus and was part of the side that won the domestic double in 2017/18. Now, he is captaining the Brazil national team in Copa America.

The 36-year-old lasted for around 8 years at the Nou Camp before he opted to make an exit in 2016. In the long run, Alves became an integral part of the Catalans and savoured a cluster of trophies that include three Champions League titles.

He played for around 400 matches and engrained his name as one of the best full-backs of his generation. The former Sevilla man has earned 112 caps till date.

Why shouldn’t Barca sign Alves?

Without a shadow of a doubt, Alves hasn’t shown a tinge of rustiness despite nearing the final years of his career.

It can be seen through his enormous work rate with the Parisians in the previous season and his performances in Copa America as well. Yet, a return to Camp Nou at this moment sounds absurd as it will have an impact on the current squad.

Nelson Semedo is yet to make his mark under Ernesto Valverde as the Portuguese right-back failed to become a starter despite being immensely talented. Sergi Roberto, a midfielder turned full-back, has been gracing that right-back void for over three seasons.

Moreover, Moussa Wague, the reserves talent is poised to feature in Barca’s first-team next season. Given this, Alves would end up as nothing but a misfit for the Blaugrana.

Final Verdict

The Catalans are sorting out reinforcements ahead of next season. Instead of bringing back the Brazilian defender, Barca should focus on building the squad around the young talents.
