“Best birthday present”, “Got goosebumps”: Some Sheffield United fans react to 1-0 win vs Arsenal + Match Report

Sheffield United v Arsenal report – Sheffield United Match report

Sheffield United ended their run of three successive league defeats at home with an impressive 1-0 win over Arsenal to send Bramall Lane into ruptures at full time.

Lys Mousset scored the only goal of the game for the home side, while the Gunners struggled to create enough clear-cut opportunities to get back into the game, let alone score the winning goal.

Very early on, there was a VAR controversy when Sokratis’ shirt was tugged inside the Blades’ box by a defender, but referee Mike Dean didn’t see it that way and VAR did not overrule his decision.

Around the 21st minute, Unai Emery’s men produced their best spell on the counter-attack from a Sheffield United corner. Sead Kolasinac found Nicolas Pepe with a good cross to finish that move off, but the latter didn’t get enough purchase in his shot to test Dean Henderson or score.

Nine minutes later, the home side took the lead when a John O’Connell knockdown fell kindly into the path of Mousset to tuck in from close range.

Arsenal had a chance to equalise at the stroke of half-time, but Granit Xhaka’s splendid volley effort was well saved by Henderson.

The visitors really laboured throughout the second half and couldn’t muster attacks with substance in the opposition box. In fact, it was Sheffield United who had a couple of chances on the counter to kill this game off.

All in all, a performance to remember from Chris Wilder’s men against the mighty Arsenal. This win takes them up to ninth in the league with 12 points, same as Burnley and Tottenham, who are eighth and seventh respectively.
