Liverpool Player Ratings vs Augsburg

James Milner scored an early penalty to guide Liverpool into the last 16 of the Europa League.

The penalty proved decisive because Augsburg had several chances to score an important away goal. The closest they came was a brilliant curling free-kick which just skimmed past Mignolet’s post.

James Milner

Liverpool brought off Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho towards the end for them to save energy going into Sunday’s Capital One Cup final against Man City. Here we rate the performances of the Liverpool players.

Simon Mignolet – 7/10

Mignolet made some good saves especially when he quickly came of his line to block a Werrner shot when he had been put clean through on goal.

Nathaniel Clyne – 6.5/10

Clyne made some good runs into the Augsburg box, he put in some good crosses and had a decent shot on goal.

Lucas Lieva – 6.5/10

Lucas’ awareness made him a good make-shift centre-back and he had good positioning. Lucas misplaced a backpass but Caiuby missed the chance.

Mamadou Sakho – 6/10

Sakho made some questionable decisions during the game but his pace was often useful.

Alberto Moreno – 6/10

Moreno made some decent runs and provided an overlap for crosses. His defending wasn’t convincing and Augsburg tried to exploit that.

James Milner – 7.5/10

Milner scored the vital penalty and made some good crosses, he added some much needed European experience.

Jordan Henderson – 5.5/10

Henderson missed a huge chance to put the game to bed and it wasn’t his game however his work-rate was good.

Emre Can – 6/10

The German’s game was inconsistent and will need to perform better on Sunday in the League Cup final.

Philippe Coutinho – 7/10

Coutinho was Liverpool’s biggest attacking threat and had some decent chances but failed to add to the scoreline. He would have had one eye on the League Cup final on Sunday.

Roberto Firmino – 7/10

Firmino showed he is getting a better understanding with Coutinho but he didn’t have a big impact on the game.

Daniel Sturridge – 6.5/10

Sturridge is still getting back to full fitness and he missed a good chance in the second-half.
