Biggest bargain of the summer? – Man Utd must pounce on the chance to sign this 29-year-old Englishman for £25m

Manchester United Opinion: Why the Reds should make go for Danny Rose?

According to a report from the Telegraph, Danny Rose has been left out of Tottenham’s pre-season tour of Asia with the England left-back free to leave the club for £25m.

Rose, 29, remained an important figure last season, making 26 league appearances, but Mauricio Pochettino wants to sell him this summer.

Although no club has showcased any serious intent to swoop for the 29-year-old, Rose’s impressive end to last season means that both parties are confident there should be interest in him, the report adds.

Manchester United were previously linked with the England international when Jose Mourinho was in charge at the club last year. With Spurs keen to offload Rose, should United reignite their interest in the player?

Without a shadow of a doubt, yes! Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has got a chance to make an impression over his squad this summer and has so far managed to sign only two players — Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. But that isn’t enough if the Reds are to challenge for the Premier League title as well as other trophies on offer next season.

Solskjaer must plan to bring in a player to compete with Luke Shaw for the left-back slot. Shaw showed massive improvement in form during the 2018/19 campaign, nailing down his place in the starting XI. However, he lacks real competition in his position and Solskjaer must look to land Danny Rose this summer.

Rose has turned 29 earlier this month and is still capable of playing at the highest level for a few more years.

He is Premier League proven, experienced in the Champions League and has the ability and personality to play for a club like United. The Doncaster-born defender is a tenacious customer, tough in the tackle and aggressive with his overall gameplay.

The England international could be a useful addition to United to keep Shaw on his toes. Both Rose and Shaw can fight for the left-back spot and that healthy competition could potentially bring the best out of those pacey left-backs.

Verdict

Rose is a real leader, with the defender’s passion and commitment to the cause can never be questioned. He’ll be a really solid addition to United’s defence if Solskjaer manages to land him this summer.
