Bournemouth signing this £35m Chelsea star would help them move into the top-10 of the PL table

Bournemouth opinion: Should the Cherries revive interest in Drinkwater?

Bournemouth may have had an incredibly inconsistent season but they have the potential to do so much more with their side. Under Eddie Howe, the club has done remarkably well but they’ve just managed to survive, instead of thriving.

Sure, the Cherries have played rather attractive football at times, attacking with such ease and brilliance. But there is no balance to their side, with the Cherries often struggling to do much either offensively or defensively on more than one occasion.

It affected their performances and it was one of the many reasons why the club struggled, which is what Eddie Howe needs to change. They need to add the right players, which is easier said than done given the transfer economy.

It’s why the club needs to reignite interest in Danny Drinkwater, with the 29-year-old struggling to do much since his move to Chelsea. Linked with a move to Bournemouth a few months ago by the Daily Mail, nothing has ever materialised yet.

It was the move that the 29-year-old deserved after a sensational time at Leicester City. Part of that Leicester side that won the Premier League title, Drinkwater earned a £35m move to Stamford Bridge a few years later.

However, nothing has gone according to plan, with him making just 23 appearances since the move. This includes just one this season, with the 29-year-old struggling to make an impact under Maurizio Sarri.

Things need to change and that is just what the move to Bournemouth will help the 29-year-old do.

A classy midfielder on his day, Drinkwater is a great worker for his side and that combined with his defensive and offensive abilities will make him a key star at the Vitality Stadium. The 29-year-old is at his best in a two-man midfield.

That’s what Howe’s preference is, to play a 4-4-2 with two holding midfielders just in front of the defence. That’s Danny Drinkwater’s preferred position as well, and his presence combined with his ability to pick a pass will be key for the Cherries going forward.

Conclusion

Bournemouth need new additions and the signings have to be the right ones to help the club move forward into what should be a rather impressive future. Adding Danny Drinkwater will be key to that future and his experience combined with his ability should see him flourish.
