Brighton signing this 24-year-old relegated hotshot would help them survive the PL with ease next season

Brighton opinion: Seagulls linked with Aleksandar Mitrovic – Good move?

According to a report in Leicestershire Live, Brighton & Hove Albion are set to launch a summer move for already-relegated Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

The Seagulls have tried to bring the Serbian international before too but failed with a bid of £10m. (h/t Leicestershire Live) They have been long-term admirers of the player, who was one of the stars for Fulham in an otherwise disappointing campaign. (h/t Leicestershire Live)

Mitrovic, who first arrived at Craven Cottage on loan from Newcastle United in January 2018, signed a permanent deal with them last summer for a fee that rises up to £27m. (h/t Guardian)

Chris Hughton’s men, on the other hand, whose survival in the Premier League was confirmed this past week, are looking to plan for the upcoming season and beyond.

Here’s why they would do the right thing by signing Mitrovic:

Seagulls require a goal-scoring striker for years to come

Since their promotion back in the Premier League, Brighton’s main man up front has been Glenn Murray.

Out of the 68 goals scored by the Seagulls in 75 top-flight appearances since the start of last season, 24 of them have come from the head/foot of the 35-year-old.

However, the Englishman is now entering the twilight of his career. His contract runs out at the end of next season when he will be 36 years old.

Hence, it is clear that Chris Hughton’s men do need someone who can take the mantle of leading the line and scoring goals on a regular basis.

For that reason, especially with the style of play at the Amex, Aleksandar Mitrovic could be the perfect signing.

The Serbian international is a ruthless finisher, who wins his fair share of aerial duels, can link up play with the attacking midfielders and be a genuine threat from crosses and set-pieces.

Conclusion

All in all, Brighton need a centre-forward and the 24-year-old Mitrovic is the right man for them. They mustn’t hesitate in making a move for him this summer.
