Brilliant Sergio Aguero – The Best And The Worst Rated Manchester City Players In The 2-0 Victory Over Brighton

Full Time: Brighton 0-2 Manchester City

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City made a winning start to their campaign this season as they spoilt the party at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday. Newly promoted side Brighton Albion managed to hold on to a 0-0 score line until the hour mark but some incisive play put Sergio Aguero through on goal, who was not going to miss scoring from close range.

An own goal from Dunk gave Manchester City a two goal lead and though the home side put some pressure late in the game, they could not find the back of the net and failed to take even a point, even after putting in a gritty performance. City will be relatively happy with the result, taking all three points and here’s how City’s players fared on the opening day.

Manchester City Player Ratings

Ederson (5)

Showed some nerves and was hardly convincing, even as he had very little to do, as he flapped some crosses and made a shaky start to the campaign.

John Stones (6)

The English defender had a rather easy game as he was hardly put under pressure. Was allowed to venture forward and played most of the game on the half line.

Vincent Kompany (7)

The Belgian beast was all over the Brighton attack as he never allowed them to settle in. Dominated his box all night.

Nicolas Otamendi (6)

Another defender who hardly had to sweat it out on the night, Otamendi never tried anything fancy and will be happy with the comfortable win.

Kyle Walker (7)

Walker was a constant threat on the flank as he put in some excellent crosses and never allowed the home side to build attacks from his flank.

Fernandinho (6)

The Brazilian midfielder acted as the pivot for Manchester City and won the balls high up the pitch, keeping the pressure tight on the newly promoted side.

Sergio Aguero gave Manchester City the lead

David Silva (7)

Not a great day for the Spanish midfielder who tried his best in the final third but failed to create enough chances for his side. Grabbed an assist though.

Kevin de Bruyne (8)

The Belgian star was actually the best player for City on the night as he ran the show and made sure that Brighton never stood a chance.

Danilo (6)

The former Real Madrid man was making his Premier League debut and could not have asked for a more comfortable game, on the left-hand side of the midfield.

Gabriel Jesus (7)

The youngster was the biggest threat to Brighton in the first half and though he slowly faded away, he was not too far away from writing his name on the score sheet.

Sergio Aguero (8)

The Argentine hitman was always a threat in front of goal. He took a long time to beat the keeper but was never going to miss the simple chance that helped City take the lead on the night.

SUBS:

Raheem Sterling (6)

The former Liverpool man came in with just over 10 minutes to play and had a couple of chances to run at the Brighton defence, but to no avail.

Leroy Sane (6)

Pep brought in Sane as the first substitute, in the second half, and he added pace and impetus that was lacking for City in the first half.

Bernardo Silva (6)

The Portuguese midfielder got no more than six minutes of regular time but showed what he is capable of with some sumptuous touches and passes.
