Brilliant Vardy, Poor Iborra – The best and the worst rated Leicester players vs Sheffield United

Leicester City 1-0 Sheffield United: Jamie Vardy Fires Foxes To The FA Cup Quarterfinals

A 66th-minute header by star striker Jamie Vardy was enough for Leicester City to overcome the Sheffield United hurdle and proceed to the FA Cup quarterfinal. It was a cagey contest throughout and the Championship contenders frustrated Leicester City with some tidy passing but minimal penetration.

Vardy had two shots on goal in the opening 25 minutes before Wilfred Ndidi lined one up from distance to test Blackman. Vardy tested the opposition keeper again, only to be denied by the keeper’s legs. The Blades took good care of the pace threat posed by Gray and Mahrez but couldn’t handle a teasing cross from the Algerian.

Leicester City Player Ratings

Kasper Schmeichel: 8/10

Showed how switched on he was when he denied George Baldock late on to maintain his clean sheet. Excellent and quick distribution.

Danny Simpson: 7/10

Hardly moved away from his position, kept Enda Stevens up in wraps and was as consistent as ever.

Wes Morgan: 8/10

Put up a formidable performance despite not having played for over a month. He was authoritative and barely gave away any space.

Harry Maguire: 9/10

A staunch display by the former Hull City player. Made an excellent block and proved to be a hero when he denied Stevens.

Ben Chilwell: 6/10

Left some space behind his area but was a constant threat going forward. He was caught on his heels a couple of times.

Vicente Iborra: 5/10

Ordinary show with the ball and his ball was often too safe. He was slow to react and was outpaced at times. Aerially, Iborra was sound.

Wilfred Ndidi: 8.5/10

Ndidi covered a lot of ground, tackled sharply and offered a lot going forward. He was very composed in possession and tested the keeper with a couple of fine long-range efforts. A polished, energetic display.

Riyad Mahrez: 8.5/10

A craftsman at work. Mahrez cut inside, accelerated forward, exchanged passes with Gray, changed his pace, tricked the opponents and set up Vardy with a delightful cross. His delivery and set-pieces were on point too.

Demarai Gray: 7.5/10

Very pacy and explosive, Gray skipped past players and won the one on one battles. His final ball lacked the accuracy and conviction though.

Kalechi Iheanacho: 6.5/10

His pass completion was alright and so was his hold-up play. Not as good in the box but supported Vardy well.

Jamie Vardy: 9/10

Constantly asked questions, ran in behind the Blades’ defence and was a menace throughout. Took no time to get his shots away and showed how good his movement is with the header.
