Burnley beating Bournemouth to sign this 18-year-old Championship prospect would solve their defensive woes

Why Burnley should sign Jayden Bogle from Derby County

According to a report in Derbyshire Live, Premier League clubs Burnley and Bournemouth are interested in signing Derby County right-back Jayden Bogle. There have been suggestions that the duo is preparing a bid to test the resolve of the Rams and make an attempt to get the 18-year-old academy product who has done well to break into first-team under Frank Lampard.

However, as per the report, the Chelsea legend is unaware of any interest in the player. But the gaffer has said that he is a quality player and clubs will, of course, look at players who perform.

Bogle has started 26 matches for the Rams this season out of the 32 they have played. This goes on to show that the manager trusts him in such an important position. Here’s why Burnley should beat Bournemouth to the signature of this right-back soon:

Burnley could get a real asset at right-back

As of now, Sean Dyche’s men have turned a little corner to get out of the danger zone and sit pretty at 15th place in the table, three points ahead of that dreaded black line.

However, they have struggled to keep clean sheets and keep the opposition attacks at bay for a lengthy period of time. The Clarets have so far shipped 43 goals in 22 league games, second-highest behind Fulham this season.

It is a sorry sight for a defence that conceded only 39 goals in the whole of last campaign (in 38 games). Hence, one can imagine the level drop in the team in terms of how they are structuring themselves to deny the spaces to the opposition attackers.

In terms of personnel, the Turf Moor-based team strengthened the centre-back department but are still short of quality right-backs. Phil Bardsley is doing a good job there but he is 33 and cannot be relied upon to play every game or play at the top level for a long time. Matt Lowton has played 15 league games this season but has struggled to harness much impact.

Hence, getting a young and exciting right-back is the right way to improve the defensive side of things. Jayden Bogle is a rapid player who is equally good in defending and going forward to deliver crosses into the box. In terms of speed, agility and sharpness, he is better than the two choices Burnley have at the moment (with all due respect to the players).

With Bournemouth getting Nathaniel Clyne on loan from Liverpool, they won’t be needing to go hard at the market for a right-back this month. Therefore, Burnley can beat them to sign Bogle in the coming days and they should make a bid for the 18-year-old.
