Bye bye Ake? 3 Ideal replacements who Bournemouth can target including Chelsea veteran

Three Ideal Nathan Ake replacements Bournemouth can target

According to the Sun, Bournemouth are set to spark a £40m scramble for Dutch defender Nathan Ake. And manager Eddie Howe is keen to sign a replacement as soon as possible.

Ake has been in superb form for the Cherries this season, and is being linked with a move away to his old club Chelsea and the Manchester sides. Howe fears that the 23-year-old will be sold in the January transfer window, or at the end of this season, as big clubs get impressed with his form. (Sun)

Report claims that Chelsea have a £40m buyback option, meaning the Blues could simply offer the money and take the defender back to Stamford Bridge. Meanwhile, the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are also keeping close tabs on the Netherlands international.

Here are three ideal replacements Bournemouth can target if Ake does leave the club in the future:

Gary Cahill (Chelsea)

The veteran has found it tough to get regular playing time at Chelsea under new manager Maurizio Sarri. With Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz doing well together at the back, Cahill has only featured in Europa League and EFL Cup games.

Bournemouth signing him would be ideal for both parties. The Cherries can get a proven Premier League player and a winner in their squad who can lead the back line and further help them improve. From the 32-year-old’s point of view, he can receive regular playing time under Howe and regain his form.

Joel Matip (Liverpool)

Being a third-choice centre-back at Liverpool means Matip will only get playing time at a premium. He hasn’t really filled everyone with confidence whenever he has stepped onto the field, partly due to a run of bad injuries in the recent past.

Now with Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk and Dejan Lovren ahead in the pecking order, the Cameroonian should look for a move out. Eddie Howe and his men could tempt him for a move down the South Coast. He is a quality player who requires some game time to regain full match fitness, something that would be available at the Vitality.

Angelo Ogbonna (West Ham)

Just like the above two, Ogbonna has also found it tough to get games under his belt this season. The duo of Fabian Balbuena and Issa Diop is doing a great job for the Hammers, hence, the Italian has had to contend with a place on the periphery.

The 30-year-old is a quality centre-back though, and the Cherries should offer him a chance to join them. With the possible departure of Ake, Ogbonna will get the playing time to showcase his talent in the Premier League.
