Bye bye Herrera – Here are 3 quality replacements who Man United could target including £16m PL star

Two Ander Herrera replacements Manchester United must target in January

Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera is ready to quit the club in January because of the Red Devils’ failure to offer him a new contract, reports the Metro.

Herrera, 29, is out of contract at the end of the season but the Spaniard has made it clear that he wants to stay at Old Trafford despite being on the periphery of the first XI during Mourinho’s two-year tenure.

Herrera, who remains popular among the fans, signed a four-year deal with the option of another year when he joined the club from Athletic Bilbao in 2014. But the Red Devils have made little progress, with the midfielder triggering a 12-month extension last November.

Failure to hand Herrera a new contract has put his future in jeopardy and the Spaniard is now open to offers from clubs in January, adds the Metro. Should he leave, here are two replacements Man United can target in January.

Ruben Neves (Wolverhampton Wanderers)

Ruben Neves proved his quality for Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Championship last season and has continued his good form in the Premier League this term.

Neves, 21, was one of the instrumental figures in Wolves’ Championship triumph last season after joining them last summer for a fee of around £16m. The Portuguese ace has the ability to maintain a high level of intensity throughout the match and ties his team together with his crisp passing. He is always active on the ball, loves breaking the opposition’s play and has an exquisite range of distribution.

Neves is one of Wolves’ prized assets and while signing him in January would be very difficult, Mourinho must still give it a shot as the 21-year-old would be a valuable addition to his team.

Adrien Rabiot (Paris Saint-Germain)

Adrien Rabiot is one of the sought-after midfielders in France and has been a mainstay for Paris Saint-Germain in the middle of the park for some years now.

Adrien Rabiot

The 23-year-old is smart on the ball, can cover every blade of grass on a weekly basis and has a knack for scoring goals. The Frenchman is an action-packed player who loves a tackle and also possesses the ability to bring the ball forward if necessary.

Rabiot is just 23 and is yet to unlock his box of full potential. He would be the ideal player to replace Herrera and provide United with the steadiness and bite that Mourinho loves from a central midfielder. The PSG star will no doubt be a player for the future and United could do a brilliant job with a player like him.
