Bye bye Luiz – This Man United outcast would be perfect for Sarri’s highly intense Chelsea

Why Chelsea should sign Eric Bailly from Manchester United

According to a report in Manchester Evening News, there is an ever-increasing chance of Manchester United centre-back Eric Bailly leaving the club sooner than later. The Ivorian has been out of action without being injured and manager Jose Mourinho doesn’t fancy him to start.

Probably the final nail in the coffin was hit when Victor Lindelof got injured a week back, and the gaffer had to choose between Bailly and Phil Jones to partner Chris Smalling. He chose the latter, which surprised many around the club, which shows the former’s position in the pecking order. (MEN)

As per the report, United legend Rio Ferdinand thinks there is no way back for the 24-year-old. The suggestion is that if the situation doesn’t change, then Bailly would look for a move elsewhere.

With the African Nations Cup switched to the summer, he may even look for a move in the January transfer window. Here’s why Chelsea should sign the centre-back, either in winter or in the summer transfer window:

Bailly’s quality conducive to Chelsea

Chelsea have made an ideal start to their life under new Maurizio Sarri. However, the loss against Tottenham Hotspur exposed a few frailties which were papered over in the past few weeks. One main concern was the performance of centre-back David Luiz.

The Brazilian gave away the foul which led to the opening Spurs goal, then he side-stepped himself from a Harry Kane shot, which deceived his goalkeeper. In the second half, Heung-Min Son went past him like he wasn’t even there to score the team’s third goal.

This is a kind of display which distrusts the player from the manager’s eyes. His contract is due to run out at the end of this season, and he hasn’t signed a new deal yet.

Whether Luiz signs a new contract or not, Chelsea should look for a centre-back, and Eric Bailly would be perfect. Based on the selections Sarri has made so far, Gary Cahill and Andreas Christensen do not seem to be in his plans.

Hence, if Luiz keeps doing that, then Bailly would be an adequate replacement for the Brazilian. The Ivorian possesses an array of qualities as a centre-back and is still only 24, therefore, he has time to learn new things and become one of the best defenders in Europe.

For the Ivorian, leaving Manchester United would be like a feel-good moment for him.
