Can These Two ‘Marquee’ Signings Re-Ignite Arsenal’s Title Chances Next Season?

With a reported £70m in the transfer kitty, Arsenal will be team to look out for in the upcoming transfer window. In the last couple of years Arsene Wenger’s side has only become weaker with the departures of Fabregas, Nasri, Song and lastly Van Persie. Wenger promises to rejuvenate the team by bringing in players who can match upto their predecessors and once again make the club worthy of a contender. While the manager has already held talk with a few players, there are some other players whom the club is constantly monitoring. We list here three players who are in Wenger’s radar and may head toward the Emirates as soon as the transfer window opens.

Gonzalo Higuain return from injury
Gonzalo Higuain along with a keeper and a defensive midfielder could be the perfect summer for the Gunners

Julio Cesar– With QPR getting eliminated in the Championship, many of their stars will be looking forward to part ways with the club, Julio Cesar being one. Cesar’s agent has confirmed that the goalkeeper would not play in Championships, come what may. This is surely going to excite Wenger who would be looking to upgrade on current shot-stopper Wojciech Szczesny, with the player having an average season at best. AC Milan are also monitoring the situation and are most probable to launch a bid. But Cesar’s boss Redknapp is poised to give the bidders a hard time with him declaring that he would only allow Cesar to leave on a transfer fee exceeding £5m, which many clubs would not want to pay for a 33 year old goalkeeper.

Morgan Schneiderlin– After selling Alex Song to Barcelona last summer, Wenger’s team has lacked the stability in their defensive midfield position throughout the season. It has often left to Mikel Arteta or Diaby to fill in. But both these players have been ineffective in this role and now Wenger wants a permanent solution. The player in whom he has taken a keen interest is Southampton starlet Morgan Schneiderlin, who may cost around £10m, a price which Wenger will hesitate to pay.

Maxime Gonalons

Maxime Gonalons-If Arsenal fail to land Schneiderlin, they have set sight on another player for the same role. Maxime Gonalons of Lyon could be the man Wenger could bring at Arsenal. He has really shone for his club in this season which has attracted him to a number of big clubs across Europe. But he would not come cheap and Wenger would need to shed £17m for him, a sum big spending Monaco are also willing to pay. But so far the has rubbished these rumours and stated that he is focused with Lyon.

The other player who looks now all set to wear the Arsenal jersey next season is Gonzalo Higuain. He seems to have got frustrated with life at Madrid for lack of opportunities and as per reports has already signed a contract with Arsenal. The Addition of Higuain can be the icing in the cake for the Gunners transfer season.
