Cardiff reigniting interest in £12m January target would help their Championship journey next season

Cardiff City opinion: Should the Bluebirds consider signing Yusuf Yazici?

With their relegation back to the Championship confirmed, Cardiff City have a lot of work to do ahead of them. The Bluebirds need reinforcements and more importantly, it has to be the right players after their struggles to score goals this season.

Another big issue that the club has faced has been the lack of creativity. They’ve only managed to score 32 goals this season, which is the second lowest total in the English top-tier this season. The Bluebirds’ top scorer is loanee Victor Camarasa with five goals and Bobby Reid a close second with four.

It shows where and why they’ve struggled, with other issues also playing a part. Things will only get worse in the Championship and it’s why the club should consider making a move for Yusuf Yazici.

The Wales Online has reported that Cardiff City are back in the race for the Turkish starlet as they look to reignite the move. They were heavily linked in January the report further adds, with a bid of around £12million being thrown about.

Nothing ever happened in the end and Yazici ended up staying at Trabzonspor, but the 22-year-old hasn’t had the best season so far. He’s only managed to score two goals and create 3 in all competitions, showing his recent struggles.

That is a big drop from last season, with the 22-year-old finishing the season with 10 goals and 5 assists. That’s more than any Cardiff City player has managed to produce this season and it shows exactly why a move needs to be made.

The 22-year-old is an attacking midfielder by trade but his versatility allows him to play all over the midfield. So far this season, Yazici has been used as a defensive midfielder, left and right midfielder and even as a central midfielder.

Yet, it’s as a number 10 that the Turkish international does his best work, using his strength and agility to keep the ball. That combined with his vision, spatial awareness and clinical nature in front of goal would make him the perfect man for the Championship side.

Conclusion

He may not be a world-class superstar but for Cardiff City, Yusuf Yazici can be just the man to push them forward and help them survive the Championship.

Moreover, he could help them make a push back into the Premier League in the near future and it would give manager Neil Warnock a few other options to use.
