Celtic beating Norwich to sign this versatile French beast would fill the void left by Boyata

Why Celtic must beat Norwich City to sign William Remy

According to a report from France Football, Norwich City are interested in signing Legia Warsaw centre-back William Remy in the January transfer window.

William Remy, 27, moved to Poland 12 months ago from Montpellier but has made just 27 appearances for the Warsaw club, although he did spend four months on the sidelines due to knee ligament damage.

Truth be told, Norwich are well stocked in the defence and that makes the interest in William Remy a bit baffling. Chances are that Daniel Farke is not satisfied with the current options at his disposal and wants to add another defender. Scottish champions Celtic must rival Norwich for the signature of William Remy.

Celtic have made a brilliant start to 2019, signing the likes of Oliver Burke, Timothy Weah and Vakoun Issouf Bayo so far in the January transfer window. The trio will add quality and depth to Brendan Rodgers’ attack.

After bolstering the attacking options though, Rodgers must shift his attention to fixing the problems in the defence.

Above all, star defender Dedryck Boyata is attracting interest from Turkish giants Besiktas and there is a possibility of Rodgers cashing in on the player this January to avoid losing him for free at the end of the season.

Should Celtic sell Boyata this month, Rodgers will need to replace the defender as the Belgian is undoubtedly the club’s best defender. That said, Rodgers should target William Remy as he will be Boyata’s perfect like-to-like replacement.

Remy has been in superb form for Legia Warsaw in recent times, which is why he is being targeted by Norwich. Predominantly a centre-half, the Frenchman can also slot in at central midfield if required, which certainly adds more value to his presence.

The former Montpellier man is a physically strong and aerially dominant defender who could prove to be a smash hit for the Hoops. Due to Remy’s ability and versatility, there is every chance Rodgers won’t regret selling Boyata in January.
