Celtic snapping up this West Brom youngster would get them a perfect Scott Brown successor

Celtic FC opinion: The Hoops should make a move for Rekeem Harper

Celtic finished their season as not just winners of their league but as treble winners. The Hoops had a fantastic season, managing to continue on after Brendan Rodgers left the club.

With Leicester City calling, the former Liverpool boss left Celtic hanging, with Neil Lennon coming in to steady the ship.

The former Celtic boss did a decent job and helped the club keep their season on track. They eventually finished by dominating the Premiership, beating the Heart of Midlothian in the SFA Cup and Aberdeen in the Scottish League Cup.

It was rather entertaining to watch but things need to change next season if they want to continue. The Hoops have to do a lot more before next season stars, especially given their ageing midfield.

Scott Brown is 33 years old and has struggled to compete this season, with Callum McGregor and Scott Allan playing many games instead.

It’s hurt the club but there have been a few stars picking up the slack in his absence. With Allan already confirmed to be leaving for Hibernian at the end of the season, it gives the club a small problem.

They need reinforcements and it has to come before the season begins. The main issue has been an ageing midfield and that needs to change, which is why a move for Rekeem Harper makes a lot of sense.

The Daily Record has reported that the young West Bromwich midfielder will move to Celtic this summer.

Not only that, the Express and the Star has reported that while Harper may be out of contract, the Hoops will still have to pay a standard compensation fee to the Baggies.

But despite everything, Harper would be a great addition to Celtic. A former Blackburn star, the 19-year-old has done exceptionally well at West Brom.

Converted into a central midfielder, Harper is an all-action midfielder who loves attacking but doesn’t shy away from his defensive duties. His athleticism and technical skill make him one of the best prospects that West Bromwich have unearthed in recent years.

It’s one of the many reasons why Celtic need him, as Harper could be Scott Brown’s heir. That isn’t a confirmed statement or even something that Celtic have revealed, but the 19-year-old has a lot of traits that Brown had as a youngster.

Not only that, Rekeem Harper’s maturity and intelligence, both on the field and off the field, bear a striking resemblance to Brown. It does make for good reading for Celtic fans but only if they make a move.

Conclusion

Rekeem Harper would arguably be the perfect move for Celtic and it’s a move that the club have to make in the near future. They need new blood in their ranks and Harper would definitely add some youthful exuberance that the Hoops need.
