Leicester City Player Ratings

Leicester City got off the mark in the new Premier League season, when they defeated newbies Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0 at the King Power Stadium, on Saturday.

The Foxes were off to a blazing start as striker Shinji Okazaki put them ahead in the first minute itself, scoring the rebound after Riyad Mahrez’s shot that had been parried into his path by Matthew Ryan. Nine minutes into the second period, Craig Shakespeare’s side doubled their lead, as new signing Harry Maguire headed in from a Mahrez corner to make it 2-0.

Here’s how the Leicester City players fared on the day;

Kasper Schmeichel – 6.5/10

Did not have a whole lot to do in goal, but when he was called upon, he was alert to the situations.

Danny Simpson – 7/10

Another solid performance from the former Newcastle United man, who is becoming a modicum of consistency in the Foxes’ backline.

Wes Morgan – 7/10

The captain used his body well to thwart danger and made several important blocks. Kept the threat of Glenn Murray at bay.

Harry Maguire – 8/10

Scored his first goal for the club in the second half. Looked very composed when on the ball and used it smartly.

Christian Fuchs – 6.5/10

Looked assured at the back, but did not offer a great deal of threat going forward. One moment of skill was widely appreciated by the home support.

Riyad Mahrez – 8.5/10

Played an important role in the opener and grabbed the assist for the second goal from a corner kick. Looked a huge threat each time he got on the ball. Brilliant.

Matty James – 7/10

Stuck to his task well in the middle of the park. Another strong and steady display from the comeback man.

Wilfred Ndidi – 7/10

The youngster really looks mature for his tender age. Strong in the midfield, powered forward when needed, has become a key cog in the midfield.

Marc Albrighton – 6.5/10

Not his best game, but still continues to impress with his immense work-rate and threat from crosses.

Shinji Okazaki – 7/10

Opened the scoring in the first minute. Industrious as ever. Second goal in second game – a strong start to the season for the Japanese.

Jamie Vardy – 7/10

Led the Foxes’ attacking line very well, but without any rewards for his efforts. Limped off late in the game, Shakespeare will be hoping it’s nothing serious.

Substitutes

Islam Slimani – NA

Replaced Okazaki with less than 15 minutes left to play in the game. Did nothing of note.

Demarai Gray – NA

Came on for the struggling Vardy deep into the stoppage time.
