Chelsea And Juventus Stunned While Barca And United Scrape Through

Group E

Shakhtar Donetsk 2-1 Chelsea

Shakhtar Donetsk stuned the Champions league holder Chelsea to a 2-1 victory thanks to goals from  Teixeira and Fernandinho. Chelsea had a poor first half and it was Peter Cech who made the scoreline look decent for the Londoners. Chelsea struggled to cope with their set plays throughout the game and 3-1 would have probably been a better reflection of how the game was played. The main reason for the defeat is Chelsea gave away possession way too much and failed to clear the ball at crucial times. But it all looks the same in the points column. Shakhtar now have a viable route to winning this group, especially if they can take a point from Stamford Bridge next round.

Fernandinho scored the winning goal against the Champions league holders

Nordsjaelland 1-1 Juventus

Juventus continue to struggle in the Champions league as they ended their match in a stalemate for the third consecutive time and are yet to register three points. Mirko Vucinic saved the day for the Old Lady to avoid an upset that would have further dented their Champions league ambitions.  The home team scored first in the 50th minute, leaving the Italian club to go out in search of the equalizer which they managed to get around the  80th minute.

Group H

Manchester United 3-2 Sporting Braga

Manchester United played a nail biting thriller between Sporting Braga, on a match that should have been easily won by United, they went  down 2-0 before fighting back to rescue the match. Any team which has Carrick as center half deserved such disastrous start. This performance would be disturbing for Ferguson if they couldn’t manage three points at  home and SAF learnt his lessons in the hard way and thanks to a brace from Hernandez and a goal from Evans United continue their perfect start.

Group F

Lille 0-1 Bayern Munich

Lille failed to overcome a strong Munich side who are yet to be defeated this season and for the second straight running Lille looks destined to crash out of Europe after group stage. The match had very few talking points other than the spot kick goal from Thomas Muller at the 20th minute and the French outfit even failed to get a shot on target eventually losing 0-1.

Group G

Barcelona 2-1 Celtic

Jordi Alba the match winner for Barcelona

It was a heart in the mouth moment for the travelling Celtic fans when Jordi Albe scored at the 90th minute to turn the match which was clearly destined for a draw in favor of the Catalans. Celtic scored a nearly goal through their Greek striker Georgios Samaras staking to a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute. Iniesta pulled one back for Barca at the end of the first half and from there, it was all Barça, who finished the game with 82 percent of the possession. Celtic completed a total of 150 passes in the game, while xavi hernandez alone had managed 177, that should tell the story clearly of what was witnessed in the 90 minutes, wave after wave of Barca attacks but credit has to be given the Celtic to hold on to such a scoreline.
