Chelsea signing this 23-goal hitman from Ligue 1 would help Lampard resolve a key issue in the attack – Agreed?

Why Chelsea should sign Edinson Cavani next season

Chelsea will feel a little hard done by the number of points that they’ve got from their first 4 games of the Premier League season after some encouraging performances. They’ve played some exciting football but have lacked the quality at both ends of the pitch at times to make that step up.

One player that Frank Lampard will be very happy with is Tammy Abraham. The Chelsea academy graduate has really backed his manager’s trust in the last two games in the Premier League. The Englishman has scored a brace in his last two games.

One of the reasons for Tammy Abraham getting so many starts is not just his ability to score goals but because of the extra pace that he offers that Olivier Giroud doesn’t. A big part of Frank Lampard’s philosophy at the club is clearly to be able to press high and get turnovers.

One player who could very easily play as someone to play either as a starter in such a system or a backup and was linked with a move recently was Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani, who is into the final year of his contract.

Cavani is still a top striker at 32, having scored 23 goals and 9 assists. He did suffer through injury for periods. The Uruguayan is a tireless worker, who would fit in perfectly with a high-pressing system but has so many other qualities as well. He’s also a fantastic target-man, who can hold the ball up and link with his fellow forwards.

In so many ways, he’s perfect for the Premier League with all of his attributes and there’s no doubt that he can do the most important job of a striker, which is to find the back of the net consistently.

Another important attribute that Cavani has is the bags of experience he has of playing in the biggest of games in Europe and for his national side. This will be a massive plus for this very young Chelsea side.
