Chelsea, who will be hoping to leave their disappointments behind, would be looking to start winning trophies from the next season onwards under a new manager, possibly Mourinho. For that they would need to make some alterations in their squad and look for possibly low priced players for the financial fair play rule not to affect them, should it come into play. One of the position is undoubtedly the defensive midfield where Chelsea have struggled a bit in recent times and in this transfer window  they need to plug that hole. One player whose name is doing the rounds is Kyriakos Papadopoulos of Schalke who has caught attention of one and all with his defensive acumen.

Three reasons why Chelsea should pick him up during the summer are as follows.

1)    Strong defence– Papadopoulos is a defensive midfielder with a wonderful defensive ability. He can tackle the opposition players with ease and make strong challenges. His clearances and blockings are precise and all these qualities make him qualified to play as a defender as well in times of necessity. Papadopoulos can thus be a vital asset for a team which has too often allowed loose goals and if he can steady the team in the back there will always be a chance for Chelsea to emerge on the winning side with their talented frontline.

2)    Can come cheap– Schalke would not be expected to ask for an astronomical amount for a 21 year old who has just played 12 games for them this season. Thus Chelsea can pick him up at a very low price which would be very vital for them in case the financial fair play gets started from next season. This would also help Chelsea to keep their funds intact for the striker that they would be needing so dearly in the next season.

3)    A future prospect– A 21 year old player, who has the potential to be among the best in Europe, is certainly a lucrative prospect for Chelsea who are trying to build a squad which will be able last for a few years to come. Papadopoulos also has the experience of playing in Germany, a league as physically challenging as the Premier League.
