Chelsea vs Manchester United: A Combined XI For The Weekend Game

conte-vs-mourinho

The world freezes every time Manchester United or Chelsea takes the field, as it’s a great opportunity to watch some of the best players in the world do their thing in order to help their teams earn some silverware. Having said that, we’ll take a look at the best combine eleven that’ll can on the pitch when these two teams face each other at Stamford Bridge for the ninth week of this year’s Premier League.

Goalkeeper: David De Gea

This was a tight one, as both teams have a pair of guys in the bottom of the pitch that could easily compete for the best goalkeeper in the world distinction. However, the Spaniard has had a better performance this season, even if the numbers between them are practically the same. They both own 3 clean sheets so far, but De Gea has conceded one less for his team.

Left Back – Daley Blind

The dutch has been one of the most consistent players for Manchester United and even if everybody thought he’d be on his way out with Jose Mourinho, the multifunctional ambidextrous Dutch has earned himself a starting job for the Portuguese boss.

Centre Back – Chris Smalling

This is no secret that Chelsea’s back line is struggling badly, while, on the other hand, the central back pairing of the Devils has been like a rock, hence,  Chris Smalling is the candidate we choose ahead of both Gary Cahill and David Luiz.

Centre Back – Eric Bailly

There was a lot of talk surrounding Manchester United’s newest additions in the offensive side of the pitch, but so far this guy has proved himself to be the best acquisition they’ve made for this season. Besides, the African is only 22 years old, so there’s still a lot of room for improvement.

Right Back – Cesar Azpilicueta

The Spaniard has earned a starting spot with Antonio Conte and his steady defense and great crosses make him one of the best allies of Willian when the blues try to harm the opposing defenses.

Defensive Midfielder – N’Golo Kanté

The French star was one of the main reasons why Leicester City made history and won the title last year, and his departure is also one of the main reasons why they’ve failed to emulate that success this year. He never gets tired and creates a perfect wall in the center of the field.

Central Midfielder – Paul Pogba

Even if the Frenchman has struggled to adapt to Mourinho’s game plan and has a lot of work to live up to the hype that surrounded his signing, there’s no doubt about this young guy’s incredible talent.

Attacking Midfielder – Juan Mata

This is fair to say that Juan Mata is having a time of his life. With Wayne Rooney struggling to find his form, Mata has been handed the reins to take care of the attackers and he is doing a great job, so a deserved candidate.

Left Forward – Eden Hazard

This one was probably the easiest choice to do, as the Belgian is proving once again he’s one of the best players in the world and is probably the most talented guy among both teams rosters when he’s focused.

Right Forward – Marcus Rashford

With Willian expected to miss the showdown, Marcus Rashford will be the perfect replacement for the Brazilian. Well, that could have been a head to head challenge between the two as Willian has not quietly performed up to the mark so far, while Rahsford is impressing the spectators game after game.

Striker – Diego Costa

This one was another difficult choice to make since Zlatan Ibrahimovic is clearly a best and more complete player overall than the Spaniard. However, Costa has scored 7 goals in 8 matches so far this season, while Zlatan has only netted the ball 4 times and hasn’t shown his best in the last few matches.
