Chelsea’s best move of the summer would be completing this £100k-a-week deal for teenage star

Chelsea opinion: Blues must surely offer a new deal to Callum Hudson-Odoi

With Eden Hazard’s £100million deal being confirmed, it is the end of a rather phenomenal era for Chelsea. It will be extremely difficult to replace the Belgian.

Not to mention, there are added problems with a one-year transfer ban. They need to find some way to replace him and it seems that their deal for Christian Pulisic might just help.

The Blues signed the former Borussia Dortmund youth star just before the start of the January transfer window and barring the loan move for Gonzalo Higuain, it was their last deal.

But the American was immediately loaned back to Dortmund to finish out the season with the club before officially joining Chelsea on the 1st of June.

His potential and presence will help the club replace the enigmatic Belgian superstar but so will Callum Hudson-Odoi’s. The Englishman is, alongside Ruben Loftus-Cheek, one of the best youth stars that Chelsea have had in a really long time.

His pace, vision and confidence on the ball have seen some of Europe’s biggest sides interested, with Bayern Munich the top suitor. With Dortmund getting their Englishman in the excellent Jadon Sancho, Bayern was looking for theirs and believed that Hudson-Odoi was their man.

They were heavily linked with a move in January but nothing has materialized. However, now with the season over, it gives Chelsea a chance to keep him at their side and that’s what the Evening Standard has reported.

The English news outlet has claims that the Blues are willing to go so far as to offer Hudson-Odoi £100k-a-week to keep him at the club. It further adds that the wages will come attached with a five-year deal, keeping the 18-year-old at the club till he’s well into his twenties.

His current deal does expire at the end of next season, which does mean that the Blues could have lost the young starlet for next to nothing. While that does beg the question as to why Chelsea have let such a talented player run down his contract. Hence, the new deal makes a lot of sense.

It’s a move that Chelsea have to make given their condition in the transfer market. They need someone like Callum Hudson-Odoi in their ranks and alongside Pulisic, maybe the two can help bridge the gap.

Conclusion

Callum Hudson-Odoi is a promising young starlet and he just could be Chelsea’s answer to losing Eden Hazard. The 18-year-old has proven to be a rather tricky customer when he’s in tune, as proven this season before his injury.
