Why Dominic Solanke May Regret Turning Down Celtic In Favour Of Liverpool

The England youth international is finally set to leave Chelsea this summer after contract talks broke down, and reports claim he has chosen an Anfield switch instead of a move to Parkhead.

But a move to Liverpool instead of Celtic might be one he ends up regretting, for so many reasons as it has the potential to hamper his promising career before it even starts.

Solanke proved his worth with the youth teams of the West London club before linking up with the senior team this term, but he hasn’t made a single appearance for Conte and isn’t likely to make one until the season ends.

Having failed to make that breakthrough this term, playing senior team football on a regular basis next season should be the top priority for the wantaway 19-year-old, but will that be available at Anfield?

Dominic Solanke has a very important decision to make in his career.

Klopp has preferred a makeshift striker in Roberto Firmino this term, with Origi and Sturridge settling for a place on the bench and that status quo will very much remain next term. With European football almost certain for the Reds next term, the striking duo will certainly be playing more games, but same can’t be guaranteed for Solanke if he moves there.

The teenage striking sensation isn’t particularly leaving Chelsea because of lack of football, he wants to leave because the club doesn’t want to pay him the £50,000 weekly wages he has demanded. It is not known if Liverpool would pay the same, but this seems to be the reason behind why he is opting to move to Merseyside. It is baffling to see a 19-year old choose financial gain over career growth.

Celtic will not be willing to pay such amount for an unproven youngster, but he’d be assured of regular football just as it has been in the case of Dembele. Since arriving from Fulham in the summer, the French youngster has become Brendan Rodgers’ first choice striker and Solanke could be next to take up the berth with Dembele expected to make a big move at the end of the season.

A transfer to Celtic seems to be the best for Solanke, who can learn from Dembele’s path, as to what is looking like a successful career in the making. Both the players have identical career paths, and a move to the Scottish Premiership could be Solanke’s turn to make himself one of Europe’s most sought-after strikers next season.

Celtic also offer European football for the youngster, and while Liverpool do as well, there is bound to be limited playing time for him to showcase his talent. Solanke announced himself to the world on the continental level during his UEFA Youth League days back in the 2014–15 season when he emerged as the highest goalscorer, as Chelsea strolled to victory, and he can now make a step up to the main format of the competition.

Liverpool would very much loan him if he isn’t able to hit the ground running, and that isn’t likely to happen as he wouldn’t be playing regularly. That would very much disrupt the flow of a career, in which there are a lot of expectations.

It is at Celtic where Rodgers continues to give chances to youngsters in order for them to develop and turn themselves into world beaters. Hence, Celtic is best suited for Solanke, and it is the place where he should go to, and not Liverpool Football Club.
