Chelsea’s Hazard vs Man City’s Sterling: Who Has Been The Better Winger This Season

Eden Hazard and Raheem Sterling have been performing brilliantly for their respective clubs, Chelsea and Manchester City. In fact, they have established themselves as key parts of their teams and have become integral to Antonio Conte and Pep Guardiola’s recipes for success. They are both rightfully included in the list of some of the most influential players so far this season and their work-rate has been fantastic.

Manchester City have been excellent this season and are the favourites to win the title while the defending champions have been quite inconsistent. They endured an opening day defeat to Burnley and have shown flashes of brilliance since then. Of late, they seem to be on a good run and are in the 3rd spot with 32 points.

They still have quite a lot of catching up to do with Guardiola’s men and it remains to be seen if they can achieve the same but Sterling and Hazard seem to be on-par with their levels of impact. But how do they compare against each other? Let’s take a look at their stats.

Eden Hazard vs Raheem Sterling

Hazard has appeared 17 times for Chelsea so far and has spent 1071 minutes on the field. He has scored 8 goals and 4 assists and has also picked up a yellow card in the process. Averaging 2.2 shots per game, Hazard’s pass success-rate stands at 83.2% and he’s won 0.3 aerial duels on an average. He has picked up a whopping 7 Man of The Match awards so far this season.

Eden Hazard

In 18 appearances for Manchester City this season, Sterling has spent 1256 minutes on the field. He has scored 13 goals and 2 assists so far. The player has picked up a yellow and a red card and averages 2.3 shots per game. He has a pass success-rate of 82.8% and wins about 0.2 aerial duels per match. To show for his efforts, Sterling has won 5 Man of The Match awards so far.

Verdict

Both players seem to be on par with each other. Where Hazard lacks something, Sterling makes up for it and vice versa, making it quite an interesting feat to compare the duo. Sterling has scored more goals whereas Hazard has provided more assists.

Their passing and shots per game seem to be more or less equal and so does their aerial prowess. However, Hazard has won 2 more Man of The Match awards, which does speak more about the Belgian’s influence for Chelsea. That said, both players are uniquely skilled and gifted, and are giving their best to their respective clubs. Hazard and Sterling are on the right path and if they manage to continue this, there is no limiting as to what they can do.
