Christiansen To Make 8 Changes – Predicted 4-2-3-1 Leeds Line-Up To Face Newport

Predicted Leeds United Line-up To Face Newport In The FA Cup

Leeds are back on track in the Championship and could do with a momentum-building win in the FA Cup here at Newport.

Players will be rested of course as the league takes priority, though this match could provide a crucial opportunity for the likes of Shaughnessy, Penning, Borthwick-Jackson and others to impress. Frankly though, it’s mostly guesswork as to who exactly will play given that one thing Thomas Christiansen has at his disposal is numbers.

At least a dozen players are itching to be given a chance and many will get the nod with Jansson, Cooper, Phillips, Vieira, Roofe, Hernandez and Lasogga all most likely taking the chance to have a rest before resuming league hostilities.

The 4-2-3-1 formation could most likely still be in use, may be formed of the following personnel:

Probable Leeds XI

GK – Andy Lonergan

Replaced Felix Wiedwald in the league team for a while and is more than good enough to deputise here.

RB – Luke Ayling

Berardi could also fill in on this side as frankly, they could both do with being freshened up.

CB – Conor Shaughnessy

Leeds have plenty of defenders but not all of them are that competent. So Christiansen has plenty of options when looking to shake things up.

Luke Ayling

CB – Matthew Pennington

There were high hopes for Pennington this season and so he may get another chance to impress in this one.

LB – Cameron Borthwick-Jackson

A centre-back ideally, Borthwick-Jackson has filled in here before and he might be asked to do so again with Berardi either rested or asked to cover for Ayling.

CM – Mateusz Klich

Phillips and Vieira have formed the best partnership but Klich and Anita are capable with one of them getting the nod for this match.

CM – Eunan O’Kane

Started the league season alongside Kalvin Phillips and so is very much in contention each week for a starting berth.

RW – Egzijan Alioski

May be allowed to start this one given that he would likely run rings around this Newport defence.

Stuart Dallas

CAM – Jay Grot

Started against Burnley in the league cup and may get another chance for a rare start.

LW – Stuart Dallas

Fully capable but often behind the likes of Kemar Roofe in the pecking order; this could be his day.

ST – Pawel Cibicki

It’s possible that the boss may think Lasogga needs another game. However, it’s more likely that he will sit this one out and so Cibicki will challenge the likes of Caleb Ekuban for a place in the side.
