Comparing Arsenal and Tottenham stalwarts – Who will win the golden boot this season?

Harry Kane vs Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – who will score more this season?

Harry Kane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are both top-quality strikers, plying their trade for two of the biggest clubs in north London. While Kane has thrived in the Premier League, netting over a hundred goals, Aubameyang has showcased his talent across Europe, performing impeccably well at Borussia Dortmund.

This will be the latter’s first full season with Arsenal. Kane, meanwhile, has returned after leading England to a semi-final finish in the World Cup. However, he will be faced with a lot of pressure to net goals and lead Tottenham to another top-four finish in the league.

Here, we compare their stats from the previous season in the Premier League. On a side note, their respective goal counts will not be considered since Aubameyang arrived at Arsenal in January:

Stats Comparison

The mark of a good striker is their number of attempts on the goal. While Kane averaged a whopping 4.3 shots per game, Aubameyang is behind with 2.4 per game. But the Arsenal man recorded a shot accuracy of 82%, compared to the Spurs man’s 57%. The Englishman can pick out a key pass at an average of 0.9 per game but the Gabon international is slightly better, with an average of 1.

Harry Kane

In terms of their strength in aerial duels, which is quite important in the Premier League, Kane won 43.51% of his encounters while Aubameyang won 23.53%.

Attempting shots from inside the box usually help strikers score numerous goals. Kane tried 117 shots towards the goal in 37 appearances, doing so at an average of 3.14 per game. Meanwhile, Aubameyang attempted 26 shots in 13 appearances, at the rate of 2 per game.

So, we can deduce that the former is more adept at being in the box when compared to the latter. However, with the Arsenal man’s shot accuracy, one might think this competition is nip and tuck.

Perusing the style of play, Kane is more of a box striker, who usually plays on the shoulders of defenders. He scores plenty of tap-ins because he possesses the art of being in the right position at the right time.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Aubameyang is more of a versatile striker who can play out wide as well. He has the pace to run behind a defence on the counter.

In terms of ruthlessness in front of the goal, both players are equally adept at finding the back of the net regularly.

Verdict

Picking a winner between these two iconic strikers would be rather unfair. Both of them are capable of working wonders for their respective clubs and as viewers, we should sit back and enjoy their performances this season.
