Crystal Palace would bag a massive coup by signing this 22-year-old Scottish Premiership sensation in the summer – Here is why Roy Hodgson should sign him

Crystal Palace Opinion: Why Alfredo Morelos will be a good fit for the Eagles

Two years ago, Rangers bought Alfredo Morelos from Finnish side HJK Helsinki. There were doubts about whether the Colombian could replicate his prolific form in Finnish football in the physically demanding Scottish Premiership but now, the 22-year-old has become one of Europe’s most lethal strikers.

Alfredo Morelos, 22, has enjoyed a stunning season with Rangers, netting 28 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions. He has certainly left the Ibrox faithful in panic mode after very recently revealing his plans to quit the Gers this summer.

Clubs from Scotland have found it difficult to keep hold of players if any European outfit come calling with big-money offers. That said, Steven Gerrard’s Rangers would expect to make a huge profit on Morelos if he does indeed bid farewell at the end of the season.

Crystal Palace should target the 22-year-old forward and table an audacious offer in the summer transfer window.

The Eagles’ biggest problem this season has been their lack of goals, with the forwards having struggled to find the back of the net. Wilfried Zaha hasn’t been at his sublime best this season, managing just seven league goals.

Andros Townsend certainly has stepped up and although he has only four goals to his name, the Englishman’s involvement in the game and consistency has improved leaps and bounds.

Christian Benteke is yet to break his duck in what has been an injury-riddled campaign, while Connor Wickham isn’t quite ready to lead the attack after recovering from a nasty cruciate ligament injury.

With the shortage of goals hampering Crystal Palace, Roy Hodgson shouldn’t gamble with his current options next season and bring in Morelos.

Morelos is a strong, stocky and intelligent centre-forward who excels at running in behind the defenders and finishing off moves in one blink of an eye. The hot-headed Colombian backs his abilities and can terrorise the opposition backline with his blistering pace, power and illusive movement.

Alfredo Morelos

Despite standing at just 5ft 10in, Morelos is a very good header of the ball and is a tireless runner who knows to make himself a pest for the defenders.

The Colombian is a very good reader of the game and his composure in front of goal coupled with aerial ability would make him a perfect fit for the south Londoners.

Verdict

From an unknown talent to one of the hottest properties in Scotland, Morelos’s career has taken off like anything.

Just 22, the Colombian hotshot’s best days are ahead of him and signing him would be a huge statement of intent from Crystal Palace ahead of the 2019/20 campaign, especially when you consider he’s turning heads across Europe.
