Datro Fofana | Early Life

Like many of the professional footballers who emerge from the nation of Ivory Coast, Datro Fofana did not know anything about football academies; he grew up playing the sport in the streets of Ouragahio, which made him fall in love with kicking a ball. In the town where he grew up, street football was the only escape the kids used to get away from the harsh realities of their lives.

Datro Fofana | Family

Like many African kids, Datro David Fofana was not the most privileged kid, he had to live in a low-income household where he had to adjust his life accordingly to survive. In that situation, playing football was the only way to express himself and feel free.

Not much is known about the entire family of Datro Fofana but his mother, Valerie Datro Mahi attracted media attention when her son was signed by Premier League giant Chelsea for 10 million euros. Ever since getting signed, Datro has helped his family get out of a low-income situation and live a comfortable life in his hometown.

Sometime later, in February 2021, Fofana decided to sign a professional contract with the Norwegian club Molde on a free transfer for a tenure of 4 years. He made his debut for the Norwegian side in the UEFA Europa League in a 3-3 tie against German club Hoffenheim and scored the third goal in the 74th minute.

Chelsea

Datro shined at Molde and this caught the eye of the English scouts. Soon, in December 2022, the Blues revealed that the Ivorian forward would be joining the Premier League as a player for Graham Potter’s Chelsea. Datro once wished that he would like to play for Chelsea, aspiring to be like the club and Ivory Coast legend Didier Drogba and little did he know that his wish would come true.

He made his debut for the Blues against Manchester City in the FA Cup, where he came off the bench to assist his team. However, the Blues were unable to turn the match in their favor and lost 4-0. The fans of the Blues have hoped that the skills of the Ivoraian would help them get back to dominance,e but the franchise knew that he needed more experience and decided to send him on a loan to Union Berlin.

Burnley (on loan)

Chelsea decided to loan Datro Fofana to the German Bundesliga side Union Berlin. However, they changed their mind and called back in early January of 2024. Two days later, after calling him back, the Blues decided to send him on loan again, but this time it was to fellow Premier League team Burnley. The tenure of his loan would last until the end of this season and it would provide him with much-needed experience to grow in the most competitive environment possible.
