‘Deni Suarez is good to be a messi companion’ Barcelona Fans React To An Emotional Night At Camp Nou+Player Ratings

Full Time: Barcelona 2-0 Real Betis

Barcelona capped off an emotional week in the aftermath of the terror attacks, with a 2-0 win against Real Betis, in new manager Ernesto Valverde’s first match in-charge of Barcelona in the La Liga, at the Camp Nou, on Sunday.

An own goal from Betis defender Alin Tosca in the 36th minute and a Sergi Roberto strike three minutes later in the first-half, meant Barca headed into the break with a 2-0 lead. There were chances after the break, but Ernesto Valverde’s men couldn’t add more to the scoresheet and ran out as comfortable winners.

Here’s how the Barcelona players fared on the night.

Barcelona Player Ratings

Marc-Andre ter Stegen – 6/10

Was hardly tested by the Real Betis players. A comfortable game and he distributed well from the back.

Nelson Semedo – 8/10

The Portuguese international impressed heavily on his full debut for Barca. Made many incisive runs forward down the right flank.

Javier Mascherano – 8/10

A strong and matured display from the veteran defender, with his crunching tackle of Sergio Leon to deny a goal-scoring opportunity being the highlight.

Samuel Umtiti – 7/10

Looked extremely calm and composed with the ball at his feet, apart from a couple of times when he gave the ball away. Looked solid.

Jordi Alba – 7/10

Another display filled with energy and vigour. Looks a revitalised player this season. Was booked early in the second half.

Ivan Rakitic – 6/10

Stuck to his task and did his job well, without really bossing the game or influencing things to a great deal.

Sergio Busquets – 7/10

Linked the two halves of the pitch very well, and played a role in the opening goal. A comfortable day in the office for Barca’s No.5.

Sergi Roberto – 8/10

Harried and hassled his opponents all over the pitch, pressing aggressively and winning the ball back on countless occasions. Scored the second goal in the 39th minute.

Gerard Deulofeu – 7/10

Started slowly, but grew into the game. His shot/cross was deflected into the net by Tosca for the opener and a nice cut-back set Roberto up for the second.

Lionel Messi – 8.5/10

May not have gotten on the scoresheet, but left his mark all over the game. Hit the post in the first period from a free-kick, then teed up Deulofeu which lead to the opener. Hit the woodwork twice more in the second-half. Very unlucky.

Paco Alcacer – 5/10

Shunted out wide on the left-hand side of the attack, the Spaniard struggled to have any kind of say in the proceedings.

Substitutes

Aleix Vidal – 6/10

Came on for Deulofeu in the 72nd minute. Had a chance, but was denied by the Betis goalkeeper.

Denis Suarez – N/A

Replaced Alcacer with less than 10 minutes left.

Lucas Digne – N/A

Late substitution for Alba. Booked.
