Do It Wenger: Why Arsenal Should Risk It All With This Attacker’s Transfer Even If It Means Losing Millions

Alexis Sanchez of Arsenal

Why Arsenal Should Risk Holding On To Alexis Sanchez For Another Season Even If It Means Him Leaving For Free

Having failed to qualify for this season’s Champions League, English outfit Arsenal are now desperate to make sure that they can improve their performances for this season but not everything is going according to plans.

The Gunners have added the likes of Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac but they are still in doldrums over the future of one Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean international joined the club three years ago and has since established himself as one of the best players in the league in England.

He was Arsenal’s best player in the last two seasons but the lack of the progress at the Emirates has seen the 28-year old reject a contract extension on the deal that will expire at the end of this season. Wenger has been unable to get him to sign a new contract and but is adamant that he will stay back at the club beyond this summer. So should Arsenal keep Sanchez this season and risk letting him go for free next summer?

At 28, the Chilean international has been in impeccable form of late, winning two consecutive Copa America trophies with the national side. They failed in the Confederations Cup earlier this year but Sanchez remains one of the most impactful players in Europe at the moment.

He now has 53 goals in 103 appearances in the English league in the last three years and losing him this summer will be a big blow for the Gunners. French star Alexandre Lacazette can shoulder the goal scoring responsibilities to an extent but Sanchez was the glue that held the team together last season and Wenger will not be able to find a player who can do that this season, as it is clear from his activities in the transfer market so far.

Currently in his prime as a footballer, Sanchez may even be able to better his return from the previous season and the fact that Arsenal are not in the Champions League will allow them to concentrate on the Premier League, which has eluded them for over a decade now. Europa League is a different task altogether but there’s little doubt if Wenger will concentrate too much on it.

The former Barcelona man is yet to win the league title at the Emirates but with Lacazette now in, he has a better chance of winning it this season and it will be foolish if he decides to quit this summer.

So Wenger should do all it takes to keep him at the club beyond the deadline day and if he does, Sanchez may yet end up signing a new contract. If Arsenal fail to win the league this season as well, Sanchez deserves to leave and letting him go as a free agent is just a risk the Gunners must take, to make sure that the chemistry in the squad is not disrupted. So surely, it is better for Wenger to keep hold of Sanchez and risk losing him for free next summer.
