Three Players Who Manchester United Should Sell This Summer

Jose Mourinho continued his dominance as he managed to win the League Cup and the Europa League trophy in his first season at his new club, Manchester United. The Portuguese manager spent an insane amount of money on the squad at the start of the season and will be ready to do so yet again.

However, he will also have to balance the books and will be asked to let go of a few players at the club to make some space and reduce the wage burden on the club to facilitate some exciting additions. So who could Mourinho get rid of this summer? Here are three players Manchester United should sell during the summer.

Marouane Fellaini

The Belgian international has played a variety of roles for the club and has also scored some important goals since moving to Old Trafford a few years ago. He got a lot of praise from Jose Mourinho recently but surely, he is not a player they will want in Champions League. Mourinho has extended Carrick’s contract and is set to spend on another midfielder, which will reduce Fellaini’s game time. So it might be best for Mourinho to let him go and reduce the wage burden.

Wayne Rooney

Unless he is the first choice in any of the competitions next season, Manchester United need to sell Rooney as quickly as possible. He has shown that he still has the charisma that made him the highest ever goal scorer of Manchester United. But at 31, he may no longer start games regularly for United and is nothing more than a utility player. United cannot afford to pay a utility player their record wages and this summer might be the perfect time for Rooney to move on. It will be emotional but there are very few fans who will argue against the need to get rid of him for progress to be made.

Juan Mata

With just over a year left on his current contract, Mata is one player that might not be in the plans of Mourinho next season, even after a decent time this campaign. He was the second top goal scorer for United this season but has not been able to cement a place in the first team, owing to lack of consistency. He is 29 and has enough football left in him but it does not look like Mourinho trusts him and he may have played his last game for the club already. United are sure to add further quality to their attack and Mata could move down the pecking order.
