Arsenal’s slump in form in recent games in the Premier League has once again raised a few questions over the strength and quality of the squad at the Emirates. Arsene Wegner managed to spend a fair quid over his squad in the summer transfer window, adding some serious quality. However, the options at his disposal have faded away eventually with injuries to key players and this has in turn seen the manager already start planning for the future. Wenger is looking to secure long-term futures of key players in the squad before the summer but one player who does not seem to be in the plans of the manager is midfielder Jack Wilshere.

The youngest debutant at the Emirates in the history of the club, Wilshere, is one of the most exciting players in the league in his position at the moment. In his first couple of years at Arsenal, he showed great progress and was touted as the next big thing in England. However, injuries and lack of form that followed saw him slip down the pecking order as he was finally sent out on loan to AFC Bournemouth at the start of the current season. Wilshere has now played his most productive season already in the Premier League but Wenger is not sure about his future and the talks about his possible return to Arsenal is still in air.

He has just less than 18 months left on his contract and Wilshere recently revealed that he does not know if his future lies at the Emirates. So does his future lie at the Emirates? Wenger spent big bucks on Granit Xhaka, who plays in a similar position while the likes of Mohamed Elneny, Francis Coquelin and Aaron Ramsey all fighting for the two places in the midfield for the side. Wenger spent big bucks on Granit Xhaka, who plays in a similar position while the likes of Mohamed Elneny, Francis Coquelin and Aaron Ramsey are all fighting for the two places in the midfield for the side. Wilshere was sent out on loan to get some game time under his belt but Wenger is yet again looking for midfield additions which might push the Englishman further down the order at the club.

The 25-year old is a silky player who has great vision and even better passing ability. Wenger will not find too many players whose attributes would suit his cause at the club but he is not sure about Wilshere’s long-term future, which might be a sign in itself. Wenger believes in giving young players enough chances to prove themselves and though he might feel that Wilshere has not impressed even after getting enough chances, he should keep in mind that he might be losing a potential superstar in the summer.

Wenger is determined to add a star midfielder to the squad in the summer and will only have Wilshere playing a fringe role even if he stays at the club. At 25, Wilshere is slowly getting to his best years as a footballer and he would want to spend these years playing regular football than trying to fight for his place.

He has shown signs of improvement in the short time he has played at the Dean Court but with Wenger still not interested in him, it might be best for both parties to part ways. He will also not cost a lot and might be snapped up by a big team leaving him with no real future at the Emirates.

Do you think Wilshere can get back into the first team under Arsene Wenger?
