Don’t Be Surprised If Arsenal Sign This £10m Rated Midfielder

Do Arsenal need another man in the midfield ? Or to put it in another way, do Arsenal need a defensive midfielder to free up the work load of Mikel Arteta ?

The answer is quite simple, yes. After the departure of Alex song to Barcelona, Arsenal have not looked the same. Though Mikel Arteta is doing a decent job in the new role he has been given, he surely is a liability when it comes to big games and against opposition with a fast counter attacking style. But this is the maximum he can do given he is played out of position. Last season when he was playing along side Alex Song he had the freedom of going forward more frequently and join the attacks but he simply cannot afford to do that now which is affecting his performances.

Out of the 17 appearances he has made this season, Arteta has only scored 3 and created 18 chances which is just over 1 chance every game. This stat does not do any honour for the efforts he has put in to replace the void left by Song. Mean while Arsenal has been linked with a defensive midfield transfer which has actually gone quiet over the past few weeks.

Gustavo to Arsenal?

Out of favour at Bayern Munich, Brazilian midfielder Luiz Gustavo could be a perfect player for the Arsenal midfield. Gustavo who originally came into Bayern for the task of replacing the gap left by Mark Van  Bommel, however the 25-year-old has fallen out of favour under coach Jupp Heynckes recently, after the arrival of former Athletic Bilbao  man Javi Martinez. And one main reason that the transfer looks a possibility is because of the Brazilian’s price tag which fits perfectly under the cap of Arsene Wenger’s typical signing. Gustavo is said to be  available for £10m and it could be a perfect business for both Arsenal and Bayern Munich.

To add to his profile, Gustavo is a versatile player who can slot in at center back position as well as left back which will come in handy given the Gunner’s history of defensive woes.

So far the player has not mentioned about the transfer and his only words has been, “I don’t know about a transfer.  My Bayern contract runs until 2015, and I’d like to fulfil it.”

Would you want Gustavo at Arsenal ?
