Edouard and Sinclair to start – Strongest 4-2-3-1 Celtic XI to face Livingston

Predicted Celtic line-up to face Livingston in the Scottish Premiership

Celtic will begin the defence of their Scottish Premiership title by facing off against newly promoted side Livingston in the first game of the 2018/19 season.  

The Hoops have already gotten into the groove in the new term following their exploits in the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds. Post their 3-1 win on aggregate, Celtic made it to the third round of the qualifiers and manager Brendan Rodgers will be hoping that his squad are able to carry the same form to their first league game of the campaign.  

Ahead of the game, let’s take a look as to how the reigning champions might set out at the Parkhead this Saturday.

Probable Celtic XI

Manager: Brendan Rodgers 

Formation: 4-2-3-1 

Craig Gordon (GK) 

The veteran Scotsman should continue to man the goal for Celtic ahead of new signing Scott Bain, in their first league game of the season.  

Cristian Gamboa (RB) 

Despite Mikael Lustig’s return, the Costa Rican international should continue at right-back after a solid display in the midweek game against Rosenborg.

Jack Hendry (CB) 

The Scottish centre-half still doesn’t look all that convincing in the heart of the defence. Needs to up his game as the season kicks off.  

Kristoffer Ajer (CB) 

The young defender has established himself as a mainstay at the back for Hoops. Was solid in the midweek and will hope to continue in the same way on Saturday. 

Kieran Tierney (LB) 

The left-back was hooked off due to a minor injury scare against Rosenborg, but should be passed fit to take the field against Livingston this weekend.

Scott Brown (CM) 

The captain’s work in the middle of the park often goes unnoticed, but he continues to be an integral part of the scheme of things. A definite starter.  

Olivier Ntcham (CM) 

Heading into his second season with the club, the Frenchman has made all the right noises so far. Will be hoping to carry on in the same note on Saturday.  

James Forrest (RW) 

The Scottish winger didn’t have the best of games against Rosenborg earlier this week, but will be hoping to get back to his usual level on Saturday.  

Callum McGregor (CAM) 

Another player who had a bit of a quiet game in the midweek, the midfielder is key to Celtic’s game moving forward and will look to make a difference this weekend.

Scott Sinclair (LW) 

The former Manchester City star hasn’t been at his sharpest in the past couple of games and Rodgers will be hoping that he steps up against Livingston.  

Odsonne Edouard (ST) 

Up front, Edouard has made a strong impression, especially when playing alongside compatriot Moussa Dembele. However, with his strike partner injured, he should lead the line.
