Everton should definitely offload Ashley Williams after his loan spell with Stoke City
Everton look like a renewed side under Marco Silva this season. Though they are yet to maintain some consistency in form, the Toffees have looked confident under the new manager. Silva brought in a couple of immense talents in the summer to bolster the squad.
The manager was also quick to trim down his squad and offload anyone he felt was surplus to requirements at the club. One such man was centre-back Ashley Williams. The 34-year-old joined Everton two years ago but has failed to live up to the high expectations he maintained at former club Swansea City.
After two lacklustre seasons, the veteran defender was shipped off on loan to Stoke City this season. The former Swanesa defender has failed to hit the ground running at the Bet365 stadium as well.
Williams’ Goodison Park contract is also set to expire in the summer and it would be best for the Toffees to offload the centre-back in January. Marco Silva brought in the likes of Lucas Digne, Yerry Mina and Kurt Zouma in the summer.
It’s clear Williams does not have a future at the club and will be way down the pecking order even if he decides to stay. Hence, it would be best for both parties to come to an agreement and part ways in a respectful manner.
Williams was extremely poor for the Toffees in the second half of last season and his game against Burnley where he picked up a red card, capped his final competitive game in an Everton kit. He has also been very poor for Stoke City this season despite starting 7 games in all competitions.
Kurt Zouma and Michael Keane have struck a brilliant partnership, with Yerry Mina also now returning from a long layoff. This should ideally put Williams as the sixth choice defender in the squad.

It’s very unlikely that the Welsh defender would be offered a new deal in the summer. He will most probably be sold for a cut-price deal so that the Toffees can at least recoup some of the money they spent to lure him from the Liberty Stadium.
