Enough Is Enough: It Is Time This £13.5m Forgotten Arsenal Man Moved To La Liga To Revive His Career

To La Liga? Might Be A Good Step Forward For Jack Wilshere And Here’s Why

Arsenal are sweating over the ongoing transfer saga of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil as both the Gunners’ stars have rejected several contract extension offers, looking set to leave on Bosman transfer when their current deal expires next summer. A fifth-placed Premier League finish last term deprived Arsenal of the prestigious Champions League football for the first time in two decades and the profile of Europa League does not seem fascinating enough to lure the top stars of world football.

Thomas Lemar of AS Monaco who was thought to be Sanchez’s replacement, declined a deadline day move despite the Ligue 1 champions agreeing on a hefty fee for their young Frenchman. Arsene Wenger, the veteran Arsenal gaffer, has only managed to wrap up deals for left-back Sead Kolasinac and forward Alexandre Lacazette during the summer transfer window.

The North Londoners are believed to explore the transfer market yet again in winter where the odds of snapping up top-notch resources are diminishing rapidly every year. However, they are prepared for a few January exits and Jack Wilshere has been the most discussed one in recent weeks.

The £13.5m rated Englishman was one of Arsenal’s brightest academy graduates who performed with elegance and reputation for both club and country. But his career hit massive setbacks due to frequent injury concerns and Wenger, a keen admirer of Wilshere’s talent, became impatient lately and sent him to Bournemouth on a season-long loan last season. There, he had his game-time, regained his match fitness and helped The Cherries to earn a sensational top-half league finish.

Wilshere, once labelled as England’s most glaring midfielder of next generation has been struggling for game-time this year at Emirates. He is clearly not in Wenger’s plans, thus he is having a fringe status for them this campaign. He will turn 26 in January and his downfall could cost him a place in Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions line-up. Wilshere is facing a race against time to make it to England’s World Cup squad and needs to begin things from the scratch to re-establish his lost status.

The midfielder will be out of contract next summer and the Gunners have not shown much intent to tie him down beyond June 2018. His status is being monitored by Chelsea and Manchester City but the player is reportedly weighing his option of moving abroad amidst interest from La Liga outfit Real Betis, who have already expressed their strong desire to bring him in.

Betis, though they finished 15th last season, are performing splendidly this term under new boss Quique Setien who had a summer overhaul and made some ambitious recruitments that include the likes of Javi Garcia, Ryad Boudebouz, Cristian Tello, Jordi Amat and Antonio Barragan. They are currently 8th in the league tally and want Wilshere as an integral part of their aspiring football project.

Arsenal, understandably, will prefer a January move over a free exit in summer and Betis must agree on some transfer fee to acquire their prime target. The profile of Chelsea and Manchester City has to be more alluring but there he will struggle for regular minutes yet again. So plying his trade in Spain will be a right step forward, as it might also hand him an outside chance to make it to England’s 2018 FIFA World Cup squad.
