Enough is enough: It’s time for Man United to wave goodbye to their £27m flop

It’s time for Manchester United to offload Luke Shaw

Manchester United have endured a rocky summer which hasn’t really worked in their favour. Jose Mourinho has not looked happy and symptoms of his third season meltdown have already surfaced.

The Red Devils haven’t enjoyed the most productive transfer window as well with just Fred, Lee Grant and Diogo Dalot arriving in the off-season. Mourinho also faces the headache of clearing a number of his own stars’ futures as well, with Martial, Darmian and Shaw all attracting interest from other clubs.

Luke Shaw made the move to Manchester United in 2014 for £27m after impressing with former club Southampton. But his career at Old Trafford has been blighted by persistent injury problems. Shaw has often been in and out of the squad due to his horrendous fitness record.

The left-back has only been able to muster a total of 43 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils since his arrival. Though Shaw possesses immense talent and ability, his lack of fitness has seen his career take a downward spiral.

The defender has been linked with Wolfsburg over the last few days. The German outfit are reportedly interested in signing the out of favour left-back. Though Luke Shaw is willing to stay and fight for his place in the club, Manchester United are ready to sell the former Southampton man and raise some funds.

Shaw is currently running down the final year on his contract and the player can begin negotiations with foreign clubs next January. Apart from his lengthy injury lay-off, his contract is another reason why the Red Devils must offload the left-back. There’s every chance the club could lose him for free, and they should rather sell him now and scoop a reasonable fee.

The defender was only able to muster a total of 11 appearances in the Premier League last season, of which only 8 were starts. Shaw returned to training, looking physically unfit and unhealthy. It seems as though the defender enjoyed his time off the pitch a little too much.

Manchester United should certainly offload Shaw and sign a replacement quickly. Not only is he starting to become a liability, but Shaw has shown no signs of determination or commitment. The Red Devils should rather sell him off for a good fee when they still can.
